I experienced something similar with my Summits. In my situation I believe it was due to room acoustics. I added a number of acoustic panels which seemed to mostly fix the problem.

I have tried changing the resistors on my Maggie 20.1s. I found this useful when the woofer panel was breaking in as it gave a warmer sound. I found that after a couple of months of breakin that the resistors weren't necessary and I removed them.

I would agree with this comment. I purchased my summitts a few years ago and straight out of the box one speaker had crinkles in the panel in the bottom right corner. This produced audible distortion at certain frequencies. I had this replaced only to have problems with the metal frames...

I experienced this on some Prodigy's a few years ago when I brought them home. Using a sound meter I discovered one speaker to be about 5db down on the other no matter what inputs I reversed. The dealer replaced the panels and they were fine after that. I would say that the speakers need new panels.
