Just as an update, the back panel (half) was removed without a hitch and the cabinet appears to be holding up just fine. Thanks again for the help and all the comments.

Brad - to answer your questions. - I do have some power tools but do not have a router. - I am mechanically inclined but do not have that much experience with wood working. - When I met with the installer, I did ask him if he had a router and he does.
