i remember seeing a three legged stand for an oracle turntable a while back. probably custom, each leg was lined up with a foot on the oracle so that it looked like extensions of the three feet on the oracle. all aluminum tubular build.

i can't seem to find any references to this - does it ring a bell with anyone else?

I don't remember ever seeing it, but I'm sure the guy who builds rixrax in Armstrong, BC would be willing to build you one.

hmmm, not a bad idea... but i had a specific one in my memory. sigh. i hate getting old.

I think that I recall seeing the same thing at one time. Maybe on a Canadian Blogger's site.

I did a quick Google image search and found things similar:

The one I'm visualizing was DIY, painted PVC tubes filled with sand, with fat O-Rings exposed at the connectors and mid bracing points.

No Cigar:

Wow is right! ... except for the crinkled tinfoil plant pots... are those supposed to somehow compliment the nano-meter tolerance machining on that stand? Some interior decorator's scarf is wound a little too tight me thinks ;) and is that inner down-rod some sort of a rotating mass-load for the patter? That is wicked!!!

that is some crazy stuff there George!

dunno about the PVC - but i do know about the plywood plinth :D

when i first looked at the TFPP (tin foil plant pot) system i didn't notice that the center tube stopped short of the floor. i thought that maybe it housed the cables. but looking at it again (and avoiding the TFPPs) i think that you're right and it does spin. added inertia to even out the rotation i guess. or something for the cat to smack at.

i think that the wall mount could be adapted nicely to an oracle, very nicely, but i'd rather have it tightly coupled to the concrete floor.

thanks man!

Hello Zaphod,

I love the sound of Brass and Bronze. As it turns out these materials are used in some drain-spout (roof conduit) applications (threaded clean-out end caps available). I can see a larger diameter bronze/brass creation filled with sand/shot as a lovely contrast to the silver finish of an Oracle.

I used small diameter copper pipes (unfilled) for my stand, but suggest you do something beefier.

The joys of tooling/cutting soft metals beats out the mess of working with wood, in my opinion. Just don't burn yourself, that metal stuff heats up quickly and holds heat for a long time.

ah yes, i've done enough plumbing to have learned the hard way that copper doesn't have the decency to change color when it gets hot. always grab the wrong end of the pipe at least once a job :)
