To get better use out of my DAC and take advantage of other high resolution digital audio formats like SACD and HD blue ray audio. I’m thinking of using a good Blue ray universal disk player and an HDMI connection to a Atlona AT-HD750 audio de-embedder. The Atlona will convert the HDMI signal to optical out. I will take this optical signal to my stand alone DAC, from the DAC to the pre then to amp and from amp to speakers. This way I don’t have to use the so, so DAC in my AVR. This way I can access the 24/192 or 24/88.2 content on the hi-res disks with my good external DAC.
Has anyone done this with success? Is this even a good idea or just way off base?
