MartinLogan Owners (MLO)

Help Support MartinLogan Owners (MLO):

Hi Timobi

I noticed from the Martin Logan Owners forum that you have 13As. I've just ordered a pair but they won't arrive till January - I'm in UK.

Could you let me know of a dimension that's not on the ML site or User Guide? What's the distance between the front and rear spikes? I ask because my present speakers stand on 60 x 30 cm (23 1/2" x 11 3/4") slate slabs. I'm hoping these will be good for the MLs. My guess from photos of the side of the speakers is that the distance is about 49 cm (19 1/4") in which case I won't need to look for new supports. I have nice timber floors that won't appreciate spikes, so these slabs with a sound absorbent pad below seem to work well.

Many thanks

Peter

Hello Jonathan,

I was referred to you by another member here, Georgehifi.

He suggested you may have knowledge of the RTR DR-1 speakers ?

I have a complete pair, with panels and amplifiers all working well.

However, the original twin 10" and single 12" drivers in each cabinet have been replaced by DaiIchi drivers.

I'd like to try and source the originals, if possible. If not, I'd like to try and find the parameters to allow me to find modern equivalents.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Scott Campbell
Welcome, Broadstone1! We're at opposite ends of the US north-south axis, but we do share two things--many years of living with electrostats and decrepitude. I'm 82 . My right-ear hearing drops off around 6 K and my left ear at 8.5 K. I've been happy with my present system ( System #467) for quite some time although I'm always interested in meaningful improvements for my living-room based system within my financial constraints. I've not supposed that I could do much about my age-related hearing loss, at least as far as music reproduction is concerned. Have you actually succeeded in making useful progress to address this problem? If so, I'd be interested in hearing details.

Best,

Larry
Hey eastside I am also a Brooklynite from East New York..........Greetings

This one here (1-801-720) is 12" x 18" x 3" and is $78.00. This is the size that I went with.
Yes Thanx I found a few stone yards here but have to find time to call them.
Some stone yards wont cut small pieces the prices and shipping on those precision slabs are really high
If you want to hear the difference without spending a lot of money, you can just pick up a couple of concrete pavers from your nearest landscaping center. Granite is more dense than concrete, but the effect is much the same. If you like the result, Granite is the way to go.
Thanx for the info, maybe soon I will stop by a granite yard and price some small slabs
Hey Beek. The platforms underneath the Vistas are Auralex SubDude II isolation pads. Their purpose is to reduce/eliminate bass transfer through the floor into the neighbors' unit. They do work well to decouple the speakers from the floor, but I definitely prefer to have them on granite. They don't sound bad, but the bass has lost some of its' punch.
