i figured if i asked here, i'd get a good answer..

i was browsing on yahoo! japan auctions today and saw an auction for this, does anyone know exactly what it is?

here's a link to the actual auction: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fpage11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp%2Fjp%2Fauction%2Fn50372341&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools

even the translated version doesn't really say too much.. so are these speakers? or just covers for the sub on the floorstanding models?

I think they are claiming they are custom made Martin Logan's. You notice however that they are not curved at all. They don't look cut up or chopped off from larger panels either.

From The M/L website:

M/L's first prototype electrostatic transducer

I guess anything is possible, but it looks like they were curving them before they were selling them to the public.

Looks like they might be from some sort of ML display.

The fact that they're not curved strongly suggests they are not something that ML put into production. I highly doubt that prototypes would be out there looking like those do (minty).

Maybe some of the ML corp lurkers could email me what they make of them and I could share the comments with the rest of the club members.

OR perhaps they are the CLX!! :devil: Guess you'll find out if you attend the get together this summer. Register now!! I command you! :devil:

Well the translated site says " In the flat panel type vibrating edition speaker which the Oseen check corporation developed, the punching panel of the Martin Logan wind it is something which in the trader it has installing with special order."

Maybe we need to know more about this corporation?

They are not very big W=18.5", H=25", D = 2.36". This is very diminutive for a ML.

Might be a heck of a deal at $170.00 dollars. Any bidders?

I think "Oseen" is a science term, did a Google search it was all science stuff.

Example:
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/5350454.html
Oseen or Oseen-like forces associated with a neutral or plasma sound wave impart a drift velocity to contaminant particles, e.g., micron-sized dust particles, that moves such particles in a desired direction, e.g., away from a wafer or other work surface being processed by the plasma.

I have no idea what Oseen GLS (Galerkin/Least-Squares) equations are.

# Numerical approximation of fluid mechanics problems. Theoretical study and implementation of numerical methods for Stokes, Oseen and Navier-Stokes equations. We are mainly interested in;

1. domain decomposition methods for Stokes and Oseen problems

2. finite element methods in space and time for hyperbolic conservation laws.

OK, Kachi gets the Geek award of the day. Dude, that's some serious effort put into something casual. Kudos :D

We need Rabbit House's take on this - he can read the original and tell us what's this about. Anyway it looks like a fake to me.

Sorry to be late! Autually I had checked this auction in Japan. But I wasn't aware of this thread.

Anyway, Lugano is right. It's a fake with ML-like panel. This is made by Authentic company in Japan. Be careful, this SP is not electro-static, but magnetic. Their website is as follows, but only in Japanese.

http://www.authentic.co.jp/index.html
(According to this HP, they have developed the cloth speakers. They says that those are very good for HT screen.)

The auction comment is ;
The sound is not clear, but it could be good for HT rear use because the panel is wide. He added the panching metals to the speakers after buying the panels from Authentic. He put ML emblems because he loves ML.

One guy got these SP with about 170 USD.
