Hey ML owners, I really enjoy all the threads on this website. It is refreshing to have such detailed discussions and opinions. Thank you to all.

I have been looking online at SACDs and audio DVDs in DTS to buy. So far I only own Eagles, "Hell Freezes Over" on a DTS DVD and a gold remastered copy of Elton John's "Yellow Brick Road". I have pretty much only browsed on Mobile fidelity and did a search on Amazon.

My wife is a huge Police fan (she is actually petite) so yesterday on Amazon I ordered - "Every Breath You Take" (DVD-Audio DTS Surround Sound)
- Steely Dan, "Gaucho" [Original recording reissued] [Original recording remastered]
- Steely Dan's, "Aja" [Original recording remastered]

So what brands (MoFi, Capital, Sony, etc), and genres do you recommend? I like everything from Rock, to country and Maynard Ferguson. I have a soft spot for clear acoustical sound.

I know without any Vinyl in my collection that I am missing out, but for now my Logans are just one of several expensive hobbies. Maybe when I slow down a bit I can buy one of those round, flat, spinny-things.:musicnote:

Thanks, Lee

Some of the discs I have which I feel have great sonics and stand my test of sounding great on multiple system listening:

Audiophile Vocal Recordings - Chesky (Redbook)
Gerry Mulligan meets Ben Webster - MoFi (Redbook)
Art Pepper + Eleven (SACD)
Mingus Ah Um - Charles Mingus (SACD)
Live at Blues Alley - Eva Cassidy (Redbook)
The E.S.E. Sessions - Blue Coast Collection (SACD)
Flim & the BB's - Tricycle (SACD)
Steven Davis - Quality of Sound (SACD) DMP Label
Yellow Jackets - Altered State and Lifecycle (SACD)
Milt Jackson - Invitiation (SACD) MoFi
Mark Knopfler - Shangrai-La (SACD)
Amanda McBroom - Live from Rainbow and Stars (Redbook)
Diana Krall - Love Scenes (SACD) - All of her SACD's are nice, but Love Scenes has the best sonics

For Classical - all on SACD

Britten/Elgar - Paavo Jarvi
RCA Living Stereo - Sherherazade
RCA Living Stereo - Pictures at an Exhibition (also MoFi version)
Mozart Violin Concertos 3 & 4 - Julia Fisher (Pentatone Label)
Mozart Youth Symphonies (Pentatone Label) 3 & 4 sound the best
Boston Symphony Chamber - Mozart Chamber Music for Winds and Strings
Haydn - The Fry Street Quartet - ISO-Mike Recording by Ray Kimber
Joe McQueen - 10 at 86 (SACD) - ISO-Mike
Brandenburg Concertos (1-4, 5-6) - Arts Music

(all ISO Mike recordings are amazing quality, you just have to like the music too)

I've got Tigerlilly on DVD-A and don't enjoy it as much as the Redbook version. I'll have to seek out the MoFi gold!

Thanks for referrals. Nice to see Natalie Merchant and Diana Krall on the list.

Anyone know if there is a SACD from Kenny Wayne Shepard, Alison Krauss or any country artists?

On my Amazon wish list, I have Yes "Fragile", Pink Floyd "DSM", Journey "Escape", John Mayar "Room for squares", and Five for fighting "American Town" qued up and ready to purchase.

Lee

Alison Krauss & Union Station - Live
Alison Krauss New Favorite

The latter is out of print and hard to find, and when you do it'll cost ya.

Susan Wong "Close to you" SACD
Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" SACD

I'm not aware of any Kenny Wayne Sheppard SACDs but some if his CDs are on standard as an HDCD.

You can get the following on SACD
Allson Krauss "Forger about it" "Now that I found you" and "Allson Krauss+Union station live"

All can be found on e-bay and amazon.

I found an Alison Krauss and Union Station - Live (SACD) on eBay and for a week I was the only bidder (my max bid was $60.00). I lost it to a bid of almost $80.00.
I ended up ordering the same title on DVD from Amazon. I enjoy my Eagles - "Hell Freezes Over" in the DTS format so I will give this one a try.
I would really love to find a kick-ass Kenny Wayne Shepard SACD, hope they produce one soonest. Lee

On top of the ones already mentioned:

On DVD-A:

Porcupine Tree - DeadWing and 'Fear of a blank planet'

Fourplay - Fourplay

on SACD:

JAques Lousier - The best of play Bach

Dave Brubeck on SACD

If you love jazz, check out Dave Brubeck on SACD.

- Concord on a Summer Night (sounds very real)
- Jazz at Oberling (amazing jams and may be one of the most influential albums of all time as Brubeck and his band were the first band to tour college campuses)
- Time Out (of course, as it put Brubeck on the cover of Time mag.)

Try Eric Bibb. 'Good Stuff' sounds great on SACD. I have another album of his 'A Ship Called Love' but only on CD. Bibb's albums are very accessible with a blues/folk/gospel feel to them.

Thanks, keep the info coming.
I hope to check out each recommended title. Lee

Hi,
Lately, I've been collecting Elton John's albums in SACD, and they are all a definate step up from the CD versions. So far I have Honky Chateau, Madman Across The Water, and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

On the flip side of the coin, I have Eric Claptons 471 Ocean Boulevard in SACD, and it sounds no better than the CD (I believe the original master tapes are the limiting factor here, they are only so-so.)

...MoFi Gold
Jethro Tull ~ Stand Up
Supertramp ~ Crime Of The Century
....

So would this MoFi version be better than the latest Crime of the Century remaster?
I'm a big fan, but wouldn't want to enter a bidding war on eBay only to realise that it really sounds the same.

John,
I don't have nor have I heard the remastered version, so I can't answer your question. I'm very happy with the MoFi version. Perhaps another member has heard both and can chime in.

The only MoFi version of Crime of the Century that I know of is a much older remaster (prior to their demise and ressurection by Music Direct). I have it on a UHQR pressing (vinyl only sorry) and it is really a supurb remastering - but I'm comparing it to a RedBook CD. I have occasionally seen it on EBay, but I didn't know it was ever released on a MoFi CD. The LP's are pretty much collectors items.

I wish they would have also done "Even in the Quietest Moments", my personal favorite by Supertramp.

I know it was released because I have it in my colection, I have no idea how long I've had it but judging from the scratches on the jewel case I've had it a while.

I've got Quietest in the 2002 remasterd CD and It sounds very good. Though not my favorite Tim probably a close second behind Crimes. Never reallly cared for Breakfast in America which was probably their best selling release.
