Well guys,

It's been a few months since I picked up my speakers for Mark Edmiston in Florida. They've been sitting in my Living Room, completely unplugged, as I debated if I wanted to hook them up now or wait until I gathered more of my components to make them sound even better.

I got tired of the wait last night, and did a very rudimentary setup. I don't even have a rack for my components yet!

I put down 3 glass shelves from an old component rack, and started laying out my stuff. In the center, the Musical Fidelity A3.5 CD Player is on the bottom, and on top is the Rogue Audio Magnum 99 Pre-Amp. Flanked on either side are the Monarchy Audio SE-160 Mono Blocks. Interconnects between the CD and Pre-Amp and Pre-Amp and Amps are Analysis Plus Solo Crystal Oval .5m interconnects w/ Locking RCA's. Speaker cabling is Analysis Plus Black Oval 9's - 8 foot length - Spades on both ends. All power cables are original for now, although the ones supplied with the Monarchy amps are REALLY beefy, custom units to start with.

I did the flashlight method to adjust toe in. Ended up with the panels being at 30" on the inside and 32" on the outside from the back wall to the front of the posts, and I am at about 22" from the side wall. Bass controls as of now are 50 Hz at -1 and 25 Hz at -2. Room is really bass heavy as it is, really need to dampen the walls. Speakers are about 7 feet apart, and also roughly 7 feet to the listening position.

Anyway, I sat down in the sweet spot, and in all honesty I was blown away. VERY VERY VERY clear and precise. I did notice a nice little sweet spot. I want to play with the rake now too, see if I can't get it any better that way. First CD to play in entirety was Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. All I could say was "wow." I brought the roommate out, who is a complete non-audiophile, and sat him down. Even he was amazed.

Also played Linkin Park's new album, A Thousand Suns. Ended up listening to some Bruce Springsteen acoustic/harmonica tracks.

Overall I am very happy with these speakers, and looking forward to refining my setup.

I'll post up some pictures later of the setup.

Welcome to the land of Summitsville! Life too short to have them just setting around. Congrads on the new found sound of excellence.

Thanks!

Meant to also add another observation. I can turn these speakers up LOUD and it doesn't hurt my ears at all. They are just absolutely clean sounding, no distortion and they don't fatigue my ears at all. That is definitely a first.

Couple pics next to my outgoing Infinity QLS-1's

The components and speakers in their temporary setup. Was listening in the dark at first. Tubes were all lit up!

Well this is fantastic news. Congrats!! Don't let them sit another second. Just understand that things will continue to get better as you get your better components. This is really going to allow you to enjoy the upgrades in the future.

Quick question how does the bass on the infinitys compare to the summits? I used to have infinity Quantum 5s and the low end on those speakers was something special. Of course the MLs are Ina different league but just curious

I noticed pretty much immediately that the bass was much punchier with the Logans, therefore needing toned down. I never thought of the bass on my QLS-1's as anything out of the ordinary. The truly magical part of those speakers for me was the higher frequencies. They definitely had a quality of being able to envelop me in sound. I can't wait to get to that point with these.

I can't believe you were able to let them sit so long without even trying them. haha. The summit sounds great no matter what is in front of it. I am enjoying mine right now with mediocre front end gear and cannot complain about anything.

Haha! I still need the Musical Fidelity Tri-Vista 21 DAC, an Analysis Plus Digital Interconnect, longer Analysis Plus interconnects from the Pre-Amp to the Amp, and of course a rack! I'd also like to get a power conditioner and new power cables before long, and also some absorbtion to cut down on echo, especially for the back of the room.

Congrats on the very nice set up! I am sure you will have a blast and I enjoyed the picture with your dog :)

Best,
Bob

Dude, you got it bad now! :D:D:D j/k Glad to see you up and running. Thanks for the pix, we love our audio porn here.

Satch

Congrats!

Now, please read some of the threads on the Room treatments section

I believe you could have a much richer experience reducing the resonances and reflections that your current placement induces.
