Everyone,
I'm in the process of building my own equipment rack (which actually is going to save me a ton of money). I've just about got all of the parts required to start machining/modifying and some assembly. The one thing I am missing is spikes. I need something that has 5/16-18 threads to fit the extrusions I've purchased. The ML spikes are only 1/4 and 3/8 and a bit pricey. I've done a few searches but haven't seen anything that strikes my fancy. Anyone have any suggestions or favorites that are low cost/high value?

Thanks
Kruppy

I happen to be in the process of building an audio rack as well. However, it's taking much longer than planned but I am 75% complete. I was considering using Adona cones that are regularly advertised on Audiogon, mainly because they come with the inserts. Inserts will make it easy install. Just drill the correct size/depth hole and insert. They have the size you're looking for and are available in brass, black or chrome.

By the way, what do you plan to use for shelf material. I was going to with 3/8 smoked glass but at $37 per shelf x 6, I decided to go with some type of exotic wood. Besides, doesn't glass tend to induce undesired resonance? Anyone have a recommendation for wood with good resonance qualities besides maple? The only thing I don't like about maple is the color. It doesn't go with the rest of my furniture.

Claimed to be 1/4 the M/L cost?

Joe,
Went though audiogon, ebay, audioadvisor and musicdirect already. I'll check out the hometheaterhifi.com link, thanks.

Craig,
The Adona spikes are actually my first choice right now. From a shelf standpoint, I'm looking at 60 in long by 18 in deep. The only thing that doesn't break my bank is 3/4 mdf. I'm thinking about a laminate top. I've got a bud at work that can make countertops in his spare time that I think can help me out.

Katch22i,
I've seen those spikes but haven't look deep into them yet. I'll check the link out, but if I remember correctly they didn't come in 5/16-18 thread.

Keep the ideas coming guys!
