Okay before you start flaming me let me explain. I've been a Martin Logan owner since 1989! Started with Sequel II's that survived a divorce. I still own them even after changing to Odysseys for my mains. I have a friend and also a Audio dealer that I've known for the last 16 years that sells Wilsons! He aquirred the Wilson Watt/Puppy 8's and had two sets of Watt/Puppy 7's still in the store. One set was still crated and the wrong colour for me and he sold them. He then asked me if I wanted first dibs on his demo set in gloss black. I couldn't resist since he was giving me a deal I would never get anywhere else from any other dealer. Long story short I now have a set of Watt Puppy 7's set up and running in my room. With the Odyssey's set to be sold tomorrow. My Theater I is up for sale on audiogon and should hopefully be gone by the end of next week.

I have always thought of this forum a little bit different even when it was under the old format and address due to the shared love of a great speaker and manufacturer. I won't even start with the differences between the two speakers they are both great and provide the listeners with hours of enjoyment. I'd never thought I'd own a pair of Wilson WP7's and had to go for it! Believe it or not they take time to set up properly also. Maybe that's why a lot of people don't like them due to them not being set up correctly? We all know that's happened with Martin Logans being demoed by a dealer that didn't "do it right"? I will still cruise the forum to see what's new, who's been banned, and to see what Joey has bought this month. :p It has been a pleasure to read your posts and engage in pleasant disagreements at times.

Statman - Wish You Well...

Statman,

Good luck with those Watt Puppy 7's. :) You'll still have the Sequel II's correct?
Don't be a stranger. Feel free to chime in anytime... :) I think I speak for a lot of the membership when I say, 'Your always welcome at the ML Club'. ;)

Damn Vern,

Sorry to hear you sold your Odysseys, at least your happy with the Watt Puppy 7. Hope you stop in from time to time. You were one of the original members back before the site changed to its new format.

Take care,

Joe :D

P.S. They may not be Logan’s, but I would love to see a pic of your new setup with the WP7’s.

Zip,

I'll post pictures of them when I'm done. The funny thing is I thought I'd just set them up and be finished, wrong. I had the room tweaked for the Logans and now I need to rearrange the Sonex panels for the Wilsons. Funny how each speaker brings it's own setup problems into a room? The Sequels did it, the Odysseys did it, the Scripts did it and now the WP7's Oh well at least I have two trash cans to listen to now. I forgot all about that thread LOL I must say as far as imaging, wide soundstaging and dynamics and detail,WOW! :D

Robin,

Thanks for the kind words. I hope you keep posting the system pics I've saved quite a few of them. I may have to give the Sequels to my son as a gift. I wish as a teenager my dad had given something like that to me.

The Wilsons do take some proper technique to get them to sound as they are intended. There is actually a procedure you might find on their site or by a quick email to their tech. Its rather simple, yet tedious. But well worth the effort in the end.

What amps are you using?

We just powered up the MAXX 2s with a Classe CA2200, and WOWOWOW....I cant wait to get the Omicron monoblocks fired up on those beasts!

Audiophiliac

Source player is the Ayre CX-7 (not upgraded it yet). I'm using as a line stage the Audio Research LS25 MK II and the Mark Levinson 335 amp. More than enough power to drive them to insane levels of loudness. Played track 10 of the Burmester 3 disc the first night of the dealer setting them up and the drum track just had me shaking my head in amazement. I also must add he came out again two nights later and checked everything after the speakers settled into the floor (Wood) I watched him use the setup using the two tape measures and slowly toe in the speakers until both "dots" are visible on the inside of the Watt. I'm slowly thinking of returning to monoblocks. I had at one time a set of Audio Research Classic 120 tube amps.Although they sounded great they were a pain to retube and had problems driving my Sequel II's believe it or not! I'm sticking to solid state for the amp section. So you're saying audition Classe? I haven't heard any of the newer Classe gear.

You should give a try to the Classe CA-2200.
I was told many engineers left Mark Levinson (Madrigal should I say) to Classe to produce the news gear. The amps are very good, especially at their price.

Yes I would definitely give the Classe amps a listen. They are sexy and they are built like tanks....very clean tanks....and they sound dreamy. :)

Anyone want to bet on how long befopre he sells those (watt) puppies and finds his way back via a pair of Summits? ESL sound is way too addicting.

I'll take that bet mister. :D

I've been either a Planar or Electrostat owner since 1980. Had Magnaplanar MG IIB's, Acoustat 2+2's and then started into Martin Logan's after hearing them one day at Christopher Hansen's store back in 1989. If I were to return to Panels again the Summit's would probably be the speaker to get. I've been very impressed with the panel woofer integration it's their best effort yet. They are also becoming better at dynamics which is hard to do with an Electrostatic speaker unless you go the Soundlab route and make a huge panel.

Should I ever turn the back to ML's, it would be only for Avalon Eidolons or Avantgarde acoustic duo omegas (or better). For the time being, CLS II's + subwoofer deliver enough pleasurable sound to me - if I have to change a Mercedes 600 it won't be with a Rolls or a Ferrari, it will be with a Bugatti...

Years ago I had a pair of Infinity Q3s which had planar magnetic tweers and mids (Emim's and Emits) along with a 15" cone woofer and 6" rear firing cone midbass driver. These were artestry of the original Infinity Speakers before the company was purchsed by Harmon Ind. I used this pair of speakers to death...literally. It was there that I became hooked on the "electrostaic" sound.

With the coming of surround sound and home theater in the early 90s I moved to Klipsch for about 15 years. Honestly, between raising a family and other financial obligations, I couldn't really afford a pair of MLs if I wanted them. Since finances have improved I decided it was time to upgrade my entire system. I went out and listened to literally everything on the market and nothing moved me to spend any of my $$ until I heard the Summits, and I made a decision on the spot.

Statman, are you still here?

Found these today at one of Ann Arbor's few surviving high-end audio stores.

So...

Will you be changing your forum name to "Dynamicman"?

The Wilsons are just another expression of the desire for musical purity. When properly set up they sound amazing. If I were in your shoes I might consider the same thing, or Avalon Edolon Diamonds, or Avant Garde Duos, or JM Lab Mezzo Utopia Be's, or Karhma's etc, etc. etc.

There is more than one path to enlightenment, the point is to enjoy the journey.

Do stop by whenever you can!

Hey everyone.

I still check out the posts here. This forum is the friendliest and most interactive that I'm on. Come on you can't get rid of me that easily? :D

Mitt,

Now I need a new screen name oh great! LOL

Kach22,

Here are a few some pictures I took of the cans. The room still isn't finished. One of these days I'll have draperies to cover the wall properly. I keep spending it on the equipment. I'm going to order a Watch center channel hopefully next month! These speakers absolutely disappear on some well recorded tracks. Not as tall of a soundstage as the Odysseys but image placement is even tighter than before. Proper set up is critical with the Watt Puppy 7's. They sound much better at home than when I listened to them in the store.

Very nice room, Statman. BTW there's no need to shift forums. I still participate in the Klipsch Forum. Any forum concerned with high end audio is going to be relevant to your passion, no matter what brand of high end speakers you actually own.

goods riddens to bad rubbish. maybe the guy who buys your oddeseys will join and we can badmouth you about your dumb decision.

Just kidding. I love wilson speakers. Theyre the best sounding lego blocks I ever heard. Enjoy them. take it easy and drop buy often. Maybe the CLX will draw you back into the world of ML.
Cheers

Funny you should say that. He was the one who turned me on to this forum when it first started. He's a friend of mine so I can always visit him and the Odysseys. ;)
