I finally decided to take the plunge in getting a new CD player!!

Cayin CDT 15A Tube CD Player.
- With a free 120V converter for 120V power supply. Select 'Air Shipping from China' - shipping method.

HDCD decoder and D/A converter
Separated tube output and solid-state output
Two Russian 6922 functional tubes
Coaxial and fiber-optic digital output
PHILIPS CDM1210 and CD7 servo
Digital filtering with PCM1732 and Audio OPA2604
Luxury aluminum remote control

Out the door price of $775 from https://www.nysound.com/

Any disadvantages with using a power converter?

Can I do better (same model or with a different model) at that price or LOWER?

Oh, if it matters, my current system is a set of ReQuest and a PrimaLuna Prologue One tube integrated (similar to the Cayin TA-30).

never heard it before but i just got a jolida 100a tube cdp with level 1 mods done to it for less than that priced used. it is an excellent player that will compete with $2k players. im not the only one saying that, all the reviews suggest this and it is quite responsive to tube rolling. just a suggestion. cheers!!!

Hi Anthony,

I recently heard DTB300 speak of Mods being done to CD Players. Just curious what this entails, how it's done, and which players this can be done on?

Cheers,

Dan Wright of ModWright has a great reputation not only with customer service, but also his products
http://www.modwright.com/products/

TRL has also gotten some great reviews of their mods

Oade Brothers in Atlanta have some great prices on new Sony Players and their mods are to swap out some OpAmps - simple little mod and not as extensive as the above folks can offer.

Reference Audio Mods

Alex Peychev of APL has some great mods, but lacks in the customer service aspect of the business based on many posts. Most think he is overwhelmed by the amount of work. But his units have received great praise.

Vacuum State Mods - Allen has also done some great mods and has gotten good reviews and talk.

These are probably the big players out there...But remember there are MANY others out there doing mods as the market is hot right now for them. BEWARE!!! If I was going to have some done by one of these folks, it would probably be Dan Wright as he has always replied to my e-mails and offered any and all advice for mods to a player or my DAC. Personally I have a friend in TX who does all my electronics work, repair, etc. and I have a Sony DV-NS999ES player being moded by him. I am having all the OpAmp replace, all the resistors on the audio board changed out, and...I forget what else :) But again if I did not have Charlie in TX, I would be using Dan Wright.

Here is a link to a search I did on Audio Asylum for Mods...

Hope this helps you out...

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting the Jolida 100A now...

...after posting on some other board, I'm kinda cautious of how the free power converter might effect the sound of the Cayin (even though I hardly got any replies about the converter, and nothing concrete either). I finally e-mailed the dealer and he said that they themselves make the converter for other CDPs too and they work pretty good. Not sure what to think now.

I can get the Jolida new for $800 unmodded, and on AudioGon there is one right in my state (NJ) for around $650 (sale pending). Can anyone suggest where else to inquire that is willing to sell less than full retail ($900)?

I did some more researching on this unit...and convinced myself to order one!

Should receive it by end of next week. It being available in black also made the decision easier.

I'm psyched!

thats great news. i assume you got the stock unit (unmodded). definately try different tubes than stock supplied and you will be surprised at how much change there is. i just bought a pair of blue circle bc68 power cords for my ascent i's and they made a huge difference in noise reduction and musicality. i would definately look into these as well, as they are an excellent match with logans and the jolida. enjoy!!!
