Dick and Rick Hoyt are a father and son team who compete in marathons and triathlons. Rick was brain-damaged during birth. He can't walk or talk. His father carries, pulls, rides and pushes him from start to finish.

Just to remind you, a triathlon is 26.2 miles of running, 112 miles of cycling and 2.4 miles of swimming. And I consider myself a good dad because I read stories with my son most nights.

I've seen television coverage of more than one race that they have taken part of. A true inspiration.....also makes me realize how much more I should be doing with my children.

Thanks for the reminder.

Hey Sugar, Good post, puts things into perspective, if that dosen't make you want to hug your kids just a little extra today and be thankfull !!

Bryant Gumble had a great story on these two on his "Real Sports" show on HBO. Truely inspiring. What I found very interesting (as the step father of a child who is developmentally delayed), is that when they were able to fit the son up with a theraputic communicator (speech machine), he was remarkably conversational. He would take painstaking minutes to select letters one at a time using eye motions to construct very articulate sentences and paragraphs. He said that when he competes with his dad he feels no sense of being disabled.

Incredible, touching story and a wonderful reminder that appearances are not always what they seem. My step daughter only speaks in 2 and 3 word sentences, but she understands EVERYTHING and teaches me the meaning of innocence every day.

Just Beautiful...
