Hello:

The online manual for the Summits (pdf file) states "Spade connectors are suggested for optimum contact and ease of installation." I plan on purchasing the Atlas Ascent speaker cable (see the description 3/4s the way down the page), but spade connectors are not available. The Eichmann "bayonet" banana connector is highly recommended.

Questions:
1. Does the Summit accept banana connectors? (the manual is silent on this)
2. Should I follow ML's preference for spades, or go with the Eichmann banana connectors?

Thanks.

The Summits will accept bananas. It has the same speaker terminals as the rest of the Martin Logan line-up. Apparently, ML recommends spade connections because they are more secure but bananas will work just fine.

The downside is: If you are moving the speaker around trying to find the best location you run the risk of pulling out the banana connectors and causing a potentially damaging short to your amp or speaker.

You can buy locking banana plus so you don't run the risk of them slipping out.

+1

This is a great solution if the speaker wire is also in a 'traffic' area for pets, small kids, etc.

They are a bear to work with sometimes, but the results (in terms of secure connnections) are worth it.
