I made a crude DIY Hydra with one Hubble outlet so far. Great tweak!

Hooked my Six Pac's up to it. More inner detail, blacker backgrounds. Maybe lost a tiny bit of macro dynamics. I bought 8 of the capacitors from Mouser Electronics. I want to make a big power strip with 5 or 6 outlets with a wood frame and a box of Hubble outlets I have sitting around. I will probably buy some VH cable for the project.

You might want to build a snubber circuit with those capacitors. All filters will amplify a set frequency depending on the L and C of the filter network. Adding a snubber resister will help reduce this.

I might if I knew where to start. I am not not an EE. As it is, DIY Hydra has already exceeded my expectations.

By the way, you wouldn't happen to know how to make a device to remove DC fom an AC line (i.e., a DIY humbuster)?

The fastest way to get rid of DC on a AC line is put the power through an AC 60Hz transformer. A transformer will not pass DC.

There is no way you can build one of these transformers. I would look at a company called Equitech. They make a center tapped isolation transformer based power conditioner that will get rid of common mode humm. See the link below.

Blacker background = quieter background (i.e., no haze of white noise)

PS Audio use to make the Humbuster, a standalone DC filter. They now make a UPC 200HB that includes DC removal functionality to their UPC 200 passive AC noise filter.

Why, do you believe there is a problem with the Shunyata Hydra? If you search Audio Asslum, it is considerred to the one of the best power conditioners. The Hydra does not use a RLC tank circuit. Though, I suppose it is possible to improve upon the circuit. Maybe Shunyata is holding off on such an improvement to make all their dedicated customers hit the upgrade path.

If you can get and Isolated center tapped transformer with the VA rating you are looking for, then you can make a balanced power conditioner easy.

Neither one of those are able to handle the load of an amplifier. One big reason people want to remove DC from the line is that they have a transformer that is humming. You can pick-up a used PS Audio humbuster for about $175. This will handle the load of an amp.

Last weekend I wired together four outlets with one cap per outlet. I now have my whole system running off one wall outlet. I have seen this recommended in a few places. This was a very substantial upgrade. Now I need to rewire it with some VH Audio Bulk AC Power Wire.

Additionally, I want to make some power cords with custom lengths of the VH wire. http://vhaudio.com/wire.html

I tried it out on video too. Very nice improvement as well.
