From Theos to Montis, goodbye Magnepans.

Even if I won the lottery I probably would not buy a pair because they would be wasted on my ears. I'm just not that critical. I never got into this to see how much money I can throw at it. Rather how much I can get for how little. I had someone come over that spent a ton of money on a new...

From Theos to Montis, goodbye Magnepans.

That is true, I really wanted to like them, they were less than 2 years old and practically new, but the Theos are less than 5 and like new as well. For now though the Audio Physic speakers are unlike any box speaker I have ever heard. Huge 3D soundstage and the speakers simply disappear, even...

From Theos to Montis, goodbye Magnepans.

So the quest led me here, Audio Physic Avanti III, simply one of the best speakers I have ever heard at any price. After much research and reading a bunch of reviews I finally decided on these. I could not write a better review or agree with Michael Fremer of Stereophile more, pretty much...

From Theos to Montis, goodbye Magnepans.

The Theos image and sound stage is better and they are non-fatiguing. The Montis could bring out a bit more detail at the cost of being too bright sometimes. I don't know if it was my room but the magic the Theos possess was just not present in the Montis. I bought them used and it's hard to...

From Theos to Montis, goodbye Magnepans.

I never gave them or even ML a real chance until recently. Just out of sheer curiosity, and being tired of box speakers I decided to give them a try. I never was impressed with either in the showroom, I don't think they ever had them set up right. I get a little something different out of the...

What Are You Listening To Right Now?

Exactly, funny how even the remastered version of Queensryche operation mindcrime sounds horrible but the 52-year-old Cat Stevens teaser and the Firecat sounds amazing.

From Theos to Montis, goodbye Magnepans.

Well after some serious listening and comparing them to the Theos, I decided I like the sound overall of the Theos better and returned the Montis. They managed to do a few things better but they sounded bright and harsh with a few things, also sounds stage and imaging just didn't seem quite as...

Looking for a amp, for ML Sequal II

More power is never a bad thing. However with my Theos I do not notice any difference between the 3B sst2 and the 4b3 that I can attribute to having more power of the 4b3. Not at the levels I listen to anyway which is 85 to 90 max, most the time more like 80, both sound fantastic, the 3B sst2...

Looking for a amp, for ML Sequal II

Thats good news. My Theos sounded great with my ATI AT 1502, better with my Bryston 3BSST2 4BST (aka Lexicon 225) and 4B3. I would recommend those, the ATI can be found pretty reasonably on the used market.

Looking for a amp, for ML Sequal II

+1 on the music room, about 10-12 years ago the owner just started out buying and selling on craigslist. They are local to me so trying out gear from them is easy.

Do you know they work and sound good? I was going to get a set of those same speakers a few years ago and they were done in and sounded horrible. Just a thought.

How to know what kind of circuit you might need to power your equipment?

You should be fine. I am running a Bryston 4B3 to a pair of Magnepan 1.7i's, a 3400 watt Paradigm subwoofer, preamp and cd player off a single 15 amp outlet and have never had any problems.

From Theos to Montis, goodbye Magnepans.

I use Bananas so I never had to use the Allen but thought what a pain it would be if you did use it. This is my second pair and I probably will not be giving them a third chance. When I set up the Theos is the space these occupied it was apparent they were in a different league. I think...

From Theos to Montis, goodbye Magnepans.

Thanks for chiming in, mine were the quasi ribbon, I just got them and they were under a used warranty from the place I got them from so when they offered to let me return them I jumped on it, they are local to me and I just drove them over. I could have got a new set of .7 or even 1.7's...

From Theos to Montis, goodbye Magnepans.

I am going to guess about 5 years old, they can rebuild them but it's pricey, I would imagine that's why Magnepan owners trade up about every 5 years. One can remove the cloth and re-glue the ribbons and wire but I was not interested in doing that. That is what I found out from my research...

From Theos to Montis, goodbye Magnepans.

I was listening to my 2 channel system with the Magnepans the other night when I noticed these horizontal lines on them. They are newer MG .7's, The ribbon is de-laminating from the mylar. It's pretty common for them even with this new ribbon instead of wire. No more Magnepans for me until they...

    Bryston 4B-ST

I got the amp on Friday and have had a chance to listen to it. Initial impressions are great, closer to the SST2 sound but not quite. It might be a hair more forward than the 3BSST2 but not by much. The details and sound stage are amazing, but again so is the 3BSST2. Bass seems to be on par...

    Bryston 4B-ST

I swapped them out last night. Yeah the mids are a bit more laid back but it wasn't a bad thing. Vocals were not so in my face as the 4BST. Kurt cobains vocals on the unplugged album always had a few harsh moments with the 4BST, that was nonexistant with the 3BSST2. Lows were a bit more...
