Thinking about buying a Cambridge CXN (V2) streamer, opinions?

Cambridge do some very good kit at fair prices, I would however forget the CXN and go for the much newer 851N, its very good at its price point. Another option that is great vfm with a superb App/interface is the BlueSound Node, its very flexible and sounds good on its own but the SQ can be...

Advice on upgrading to an external DAC for music listening from a Sonos Connect

I personally would look at a Black Ice (formally Jolida) I have a pimped Glass fx DSD, and it's superb. Tried many dacs with my pimped Node2 (psu mod & external SBooster LPS) Quetest, RME ADI-2, Border Patrol. Its wasn't until I got my original mk1 Jolida Glass fx dac that I felt I'd actually...

Tube integrated's and low watt SET tube amps

Currently run my Summits with a pair of 90wpc Icon Audio MB845SEs, with any luck somewhen in the next couple of weeks a friend will be bringing his 22wpc Line Magnetic 845 SET over. Am looking forward to seeing what this amp can do, as if all is good it means I can have some fun playing with the...

    Adding a second amp?

My own personal view, having tried bi-amping is you'd be better of putting the 2nd amp money elsewhere in your system. Have done bi-amping using a pair of stereo amps in bridged mono mode and using 2 pairs of monoblocks. Whilst doing it this way fed my audiofool ego 'look at that boys, I've got...

I need a cheap temporary power amp, any recommendations?

If your interested I'm considering moving on my Nord One UP SE NC500Ms (400wpc/8, 700/4 & 550/2) since I got my IA MB845SEs back from repair. Only selling as I can't justify have 2 pairs of monos that perform so well, keeping the Icon Audios as they are beautiful to look at aswell as listen to.

I need a cheap temporary power amp, any recommendations?

I wouldn't pay to much heed to recommended power figures, as I said the 8P at 50wpc sounded great, yes those extras you get with better quality amps (3D soundstage, separation etc) were missing but that's to be expected with a budget power amp, even so the SQ was 80%ish of my main amps...

I need a cheap temporary power amp, any recommendations?

I have happily run my Summits on a 50wpc Arcam Alpha 8P, it's happy at 4 Ohms and I didn't detect any distortion as frequency increased/Ohms dropped. Whereabouts in the UK are you? As you could have it as loaner if you wanted.

Which Amp to buy? The most frequently asked question on this site. READ THIS!!

Whilst I appreciate you guys tend to go predominantly for American muscle amps, with MLs, there is a British built amp that is absolutely stonking with MLs, Nord. I'm currently using a pair of Nord One UP SE NC500Ms (400wpc into 8 Ohms 700/4, 550/2) with my Summits. Yes they're class D but...

Which Amp to buy? The most frequently asked question on this site. READ THIS!!

Currently running my Summits with am MFA Baby Reference passive pre & Nord One UP SE NC500Ms rev C and Sonic Imagery OpAmps (Hypex & 400/8, 700/4, 550/2). The sound is fast, clean and detailed with e tended frequencies at both ends, I may also get a set of Sparko OpAmps (less detailed but...

Which Amp to buy? The most frequently asked question on this site. READ THIS!!

Currently driving my Summits with 90wpc Icon Audio MB845SEs using the 4 Ohm tap, and the sound is stunning. From a budget perspective I also had great success with a Quad 909, have also used Nord One UP SE NC500Ms (Hypex modules).

Cleaning finger marks off Summit frames

Jules Regular lighter fuel (petrol) will sort this + grease/oily marks on the Summit frames and a multitude of other surfaces/materials. Also no residue is left as the liquid evaporates quickly, I even use it for cleaning CDs and removing sticky label glue. .

Thinking of Purchasing a Turntable; Any and All Advice Welcome!

Not available in the states unfortunately, but I would say BigBottle Audio. I have one of their BB3s, I bought it (£1k) after I had it here for audition and it walked all over an £8.4k Tron Seven Ultimate, it was that good. The BB3 has come about through work within the UK diy community, there...

    Martin Logan esl 11a parings

Whilst I don't have 11a, I do have Summits which have a similar sized panel, and would say once you've had a play with positioning/cushions and are still adamant that your amplification is at fault then there's no reason to spend a fortune to sort this. Have a look at the better iterations of...

Thinking of Purchasing a Turntable; Any and All Advice Welcome!

Nice. That is a seriously pretty cartridge, that's supposed to sound as good as it looks. Was going to get one a while back, but a Koetsu RSP came up on my radar at a price I couldn't refuse.

    A little humor...

TOOLS EXPLAINED PILLAR DRILL : A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, denting the freshly-painted project which you had carefully set in the corner where nothing could get to...

Martin Logan VISTA Vertical Bi AMP ?

I've tried bi-amping when I had my Usher Dancer Mini 2 DMDs using 4x Tag Maclaren 125Ms and it was a compete waste. The sound was far better using single wire + decent wire jumpers (links) , and way, way cheaper. Have used wire jumpers ever since on Bi-wireable speakers in place of the cheap &...

    Bloom in sound from Summits

I must admit when I first got mine I set the 25 lower than the 50 thinking the sub bass would be the frequency to give me grief. However swapping them round so the 50 was attenuated more than the 25 opened and cleaned up the mid & treble + gave more weight and tightness to the bass, go figure...
