New listening room with CLX speakers

I remember those Monoliths really well. They were part of the first high end system that I ever heard. I was amazed by how holographic they sounded. The turntable was a Goldman Studio. Don't remember the electronics but it was probably solid state. The album was an old audiophile fav, Jazz...

    They make tube traps.

New listening room with CLX speakers

I talked to Jordan at ASC about this. I was afraid that the almost cubic room would have deleterious effects and the echo I experienced when the room was complete but not yet furnished did not alleviate those concerns. Jordan said not to worry because the CLXs threw sound to the front and...

New listening room with CLX speakers

It's called the Iso-wall construction method. http://www.asc-soundproof.com/products/iso-wall/ The basic idea is to isolate the outer drywall from the inner drywall using brackets so that the room is acoustically isolated from the exterior environment. The room is very quiet, meaning that it...

New listening room with CLX speakers

I finally completed my new listening room (15 months in the making) with ASC double drywall construction. The CLXs love this space, approximately 19x19 feet with 17 foot high ceilings. The speakers are about 5.5 feet out from the rear wall. They sound so much better than in my smaller living...

    Do replacement panels age?

Robert, please let us know when you get the panels back how they sound!

    Do replacement panels age?

    Yes. Just another neurotic audiophile!

    Do replacement panels age?

I was thinking of buying some replacement panels as spares. Then I wondered if they age. Would a 5 year old set of replacement panels have a more limited lifespan once installed than a new pair?

    CLX: power cables

Thanks for the advice Roberto. I am a theoretical physicist with a Ph.D. from Princeton. I work on mulitferroic materials. I know about voltage and current. Best wishes.

    CLX: power cables

I understand your point, Roberto. But 1 second is many lifetimes for an electron, which undergoes collisions on much smaller timescale. Your argument about the (lack of) importance of power cords on the panels may be correct due to the absence of current (voltage only) but the time to charge...

    CLX: power cables

This is a very tricky subject. I think that I do hear differences when I plug a good power cord into my preamp, amp, and sources. In particular, Shunyata cords give a deeper black background so that instruments and images are produced with greater clarity. I feel like the bass is more...

    CLX: power cables

In my experience, a lot of audio satisfaction derives from an almost unconscious acceptance that the players sitting in front of you are really there. Of course, a lot of that illusion is based on expectations. If you expect that power cords make a positive difference, then they often do. I...

    CLX system

I bet the real 212s sound great with the CLXs! They don’t look nearly as large next to the Logans as I thought. One reviewer of the Carbons compare them to the 212s saying that the two sounded very different. Not sure how but I find the Carbons to sound very tight and clean.

    CLX system

Thanks Mr. Big. I do love this system and the bass seems perfectly integrated with the mains. I also purchased a special set of connectors from amp to the Rels ( I think Analysis Plus).

    CLX system

Those poles are Argent room lenses (long discontinued). They break up reflections/standing waves and focus the soundstage. I used to have three but a child (not mine) busted one. My room is 14 x 20 x 8 feet. Got the speakers out about 6 feet from rear wall and 2.5 feet from the side wall to...

    CLX system

Thanks everyone. I purchased the CLX speakers used from Albert Porter in Chicago. He advised me to rank the REL subs above the ML subs because REL specializes in subs. I also had previous experience with mating the old REL Stadium sub with my CLS. So when the pair of Carbon limited REL subs...

    CLX system

I am a scientist and jazz fanatic. I play the alto sax and host a local NPR show in Knoxville. This is the system I built last year when I acquired CLX speakers and REL Carbon Limited subs. Other details: ARC Reference 150 SE amp, ARC Reference 5 SE preamp, ARC Reference 2 SE phono preamp...

    Power Cords for M/L 13a B212 Make a difference ?

Perhaps for precisely the reason that audiophiles have different views of power cords. Some might jump at the idea of paying a little more for a good quality power cord that the manufacturer designed herself. Others might think it wasn't worth it and balk at the idea of paying 8% more for a...
