    Sub with SL3s

Hi Jonathan Very comprehensive reply. Thank you so much. Mike

    Sub with SL3s

Hi JonFo Thanks for reply. I am clueless in this field, apols. How it connects specifically. I see some (including ML ones) which use speaker cables, but ultimately I was hoping for something wireless which avoided all of the cabling. But that's not possible, right, without a different amp or...

    Sub with SL3s

Hi and apols if this has been answered before. Can I run a sub with my SL3s, would it be worthwhile and how does it connect? Any do any makes/models spring to mind?! Amp is a Musical Fidelity M6i. Thank you loads!

    Thank you. :)

    Subwoofer

Thank you. Does the sub need mains power too and any brand recommendations spring to mind?

    Subwoofer

Greetings from UK! (Novice question coming up...) Can I run a sub with SL3s and an 'ordinary' (MF M6), non home theatre amp? How is it connected up and, if it's a goer, any recommendations? Thanks

A pair of 22 year old SL3's and a lot of Schiit...

Hope it goes well. I dabbled with IIs or Is (can't rememeber - the smaller one) and thought it sounded awful. This was with SL3s on a laminate-over-screed floor. I was shocked, too, at the cost of them!

    SL3 resurrection attempt

Re above, in my earlier SL3 ownership stages, I purchased some 'special' mains cables (read 'expensive'). Sadly I thought they sounded naff (very poor), so returned them for a refund, but they DID make a difference to my mind, or ears... :) Clearly cables polarise opinions and witchcraft is...

    SL3 resurrection attempt

Maybe check the panel connections. You might be able to see them if you remove the woofer grille, else you'll have to remove the panel. Quite often they drop and the grille chomps a wire.

    SL3 makeover

Missed this. Re bass. I live in a teenyish UK home and I think these speakers need a bigger territory to sound best. But I can't help that. :-( I use mine at -3db but they are VERY sensitive to positioning - .5 cm nearer to the wall can make a huge difference. Mine are about 2 feet from the...

    Cheaper too! :-)

    SL3 makeover

There was no real science involved, although I did note some new ML models had smaller panels, which put me off going down the new route - probably wrongly! I still have their predecessors, Kef R900s in their boxes in the spare room. I like these a lot, too, although they're more of a thuggish...

    SL3 makeover

I ordered through a dealer - Absolute Sounds, although note sure if they're still a dealer. I think ML will push you to go through a dealer. With AS you pay a deposit when placing the order and the balance when they're shipped to the dealer. I managed to sell my old panels for a £100 on fleabay...

    SL3 makeover

Hi Think I just used some self-adhesive felt. I hot glued the bottom of the grille on the inside to stop them moving. I'm sure ML would sell replacement seals - they always responded to my emails the next working morning. Good luck.

    SL3 makeover

I tried washing mine and didn't seem to do much. At the end of the day they were 20+ years old. Panels cost me £1700-ish (I'm in the UK). Not hard to fit but all speakers of this size need some man handling. And the new panels aren't quite a colour match to the woofer grille, which ML warned me...

    Alarming Crack from panels

Not sure the 909s have a decent protection circuit. I had a mono pair and whenever I turned them on the woofers gave an embarrassing 'thump'. At high levels, too, they seem to lose it a bit. My thoughts, so apols if not aligned with yours. Weirdly I'm using MF stuff now and it's pretty stable...

    SL3 makeover

Hi Jonathan Yep, woofers were done first and the cavity re-packed. Managed to sell both of the old ones, which weren't a matched pair. Quite pleased with the performance and looks. Just putting some hours on them, then I'll start on the positioning and fine tuning. :-) But I don't want to...

    SL3 makeover

Finally bit the bullet and bought some new panels for the SL3s. These are 21 year old speakers and had definitely lost their sparkle. I had tried showering the old panels first, as a last attempt to get some life back in them. It seemed marginally better but if you 'listened in' different parts...

    Martin Logan Shower Cleaning PDF

Couldn't wait, so gave them a wash. ML quoted £1690 for new panels! I made a wooden jig, so panels were horizontal in bath and I played a warm shower jet on the outward facing panel only, being careful to not soak the wired end section. Agitated gently with a shaving brush. Rinsed with...

    Replacing amp with SL3

Hi Not sure of the answer but was seriously unimpressed with the 909s. Currently I'm using a MF M6 integrated with SL3s and it drives them well. As a general observation MF gear is quite a good bang for the buck, so may be worth a dabble. You'll always get your money back. Edit to add. I've...
