    System #??? (Passage, Depth)

Original system was here (System #374 (Passage)), but as location has changed including pretty much all the equipment (except for the Passage), I'm creating a new system. Member Name: shakham Location: Central NJ, USA ML Models: Passage, Depth x 2 Year Purchased: 2010 + 2019 Mods/Changes: None...

    what happened to sonos?

I think your requirement of 24/96 trumps everything for you...which is fine. Interesting thread here on ComputerAudiophile. Just another point of view from folks owning SBT, Sonos, and AE.

    what happened to sonos?

That is good to know. People had discussed reindex issues and track limits online, that is why I brought it up. AE retails for $100...can be bought on eBay for $70. Adding a zone is pretty simple, however it is a multi-function device (wireless router, a bridge, an extender, a wired to...

    what happened to sonos?

For the above questions... - ALAC not FLAC. iTunes isn't going anywhere, and everybody can play ALAC. - Not one instance of iTunes playing 2 songs to two places, but you can stream any source to any destination. - AE has both optical and coax. - No Android support. There are limitations, I...

    what happened to sonos?

First the disclaimer... I am not an Apple fanboy. I am a tech guy and have a wide variety of equipment (could list them if you really want). However I tell it like it is. What is functionality hobbled about the Airplay? Improvements... They have done a lot about managing a whole house...

    what happened to sonos?

I have no problem with Sonos, but it is really hard running a niche business IMO. Limited resources makes large initiatives difficult, and I bet they have felt going 24/96 isn't worth the R&D at this stage. Logitech is a company with much deeper pockets and look at what happened to the...

    Am I Underpowering My ML's?

From what I have read, the Arcam (integrated) is a top notch receiver. I would first turn of all processing and test music and see if that sounds right. You can play with the Vantage woofer knob and see if that changes anything....if bass is high, turn that down. Then I'd play with the...

    Whole house audio... recs?

I'm a fan of the Apple Airport Express. Very flexible and much cheaper than a Sonos setup. Sonos Connect is $500 each + amp + speakers. Airport Express is $100 each + amp + speakers. Sonos does have a Connect:Amp which has a built in amp. Another option is to get all the wires to one...

    Bad Rumour ?

That depends... Has the store size has been reduced, or was it replaced by other gear? Stores are going to stock/display what sells and what makes them margin. Honestly though all the new lines (microperf stators) are overall better, no? Also now with greater WAF. Not to mention their...

Exactly Why Vinyl Isn't The Future of Audiophilia

When you say live music? Are you referring to a recording studio? Or live music that is meant to be live?

Exactly Why Vinyl Isn't The Future of Audiophilia

I think determining it without 100% debate is impossible as it's subjective. I would think though the key would be to minimize "subjectivity". Here is where, due to the nature of digital, it has a greater probability of being truer than analog. Why? Music is a culmination of sound...

from sl3 to request: is really upgrade?

Always heard bigger is better....for panels that is.

Exactly Why Vinyl Isn't The Future of Audiophilia

True to source means as close to what the artist intended as possible. For the voice it would mean directly from the mike, or directly from the output of a voice-processor (could be digital or analog) adding whatever reverb or autotune effect they want. For a guitar, it could be the output of...

Exactly Why Vinyl Isn't The Future of Audiophilia

Yes, better is in the eye of the beholder... However one can state which one is more true to source..no?

Exactly Why Vinyl Isn't The Future of Audiophilia

I have some questions... How is music recorded today? At what point does it move into the digital world? Does it ever stay 100% in the analogue world today? Assuming they do move into digital at some point.... What resolution do they use? 24/192? Is the flow for "new" vinyl recording...

    Martin Logan Electromotion ESLs

Which one did you buy? The newer ones tend to be more sensitive than the older models. Also, if your's has an active woofer, then that helps your receiver. I would still consider moving your front stereo channels out to an external amp. You'll get more headroom at a minimum for music...

Digital volume = Death of Pre amps??

I think we are playing with terminology here.... I consider a pre-amp a device that does everything except amplification. This includes audio/video switching, DAC, decoding, volume control...not withstanding profile management, and automation. Now if someone feels they want a "better"...

Advice for EM-ESL. Will Emotiva XPA-3 be an upgrade from Pioneer Elite SC-57

The Sunfire amps pair up pretty well with the ESLs. As for EMO vs... There are plenty of folks that have compared, just google it.

    Marantz sr7005 or av7005

I ended up picking up the av7005....well actually it's on the way :). Found it a little cheaper than the SR so opted for the more puritan approach.
