Technics 1200's and other DJ TT

Thinking of getting a DJ turntable. 1200's are no longer made...well just this year they started making them again but with a list price of $4000! http://www.technics.com/us/ So there are a few other DJ TTs that DJs argue are up to par with the older 1200 series Technics. Thinking of...

What happened five minutes after Gayle Martin Sanders and Ron Logan Sutherland

"What happened five minutes after Gayle Martin Sanders and Ron Logan Sutherland played their prototype electrostatic panel for the first time?" I don't want to spend $129 + S&H to buy this book to find out, so I thought I'd ask here. https://store.theabsolutesound.com/products/TAS_BOOK_1/...

Should my tracking force already be set?

My old cart 5.2 gram (Dynavector 17D3) recommended 1.8-2 grams tracking force, and my new 7.2 gram cart (Ortolan RED 2M) recommends 1.8 gram tracking force. So if my old cart was set up correctly, should just swapping out to the new one automatically be correctly set up? Just for a few...

    Free software for ripping CDs

Any suggestions for what free software I can download so I can rip CDs to my hard drive? I'd like to use the highest quality file type. My media player can play the following: WAV containing uncompressed PCM 16-24 bit 32-96kHz FLAC containing losslessly compressed PCM 16-24 bit 32-96kHz...

How big is too big a room? Open Concept?

My ReQuests are in my 16x16' living room. Thinking about removing the wall behind my listing position that will expose another 22' to the end of the house where the future exposed kitchen will be. Some things I do not like about this idea: Fridge noise and any noise from kitchen activities...

    Room size needed for ReQuest

I'm feeling kind of down after fining out the house I was going to buy has so many issue discovered during the inspection. And since there are so few homes on the market now, maybe I could purchase a smaller one and either expand a room or add an addition. What would be the ideal size room for...

    Painting Woofer

Was thinking of customizing my ReQuests. Part of my plan is to paint the paper part of the woofer a gloss black. Right now it is the original dull black that looks like it faded to a dark grey. I doubt anything negative will come out of it but wanted to get some opinions.

Sound proof - house next to freeway

House is right up next to the freeway. What can/should I do to make my rooms quieter? Each room has 2 full size double doors that look old that I'm sure could be replaced with a more solid double windows. I could cover up the opening to the chimney. Would adding one more wall a few inches...

    Fabric for DIY Acoustic Panels

I purchased Owens Corning acoustic insulation and need to get some cloth to wrap them around in. The place online sell burlap material. Thank goodness I went to a fabric store to help me decide what to get - because burlap is such an ugly fabric. The acoustic panel store also sell microsuede...

    Replacement panels have clear spars?

I just received my ReQuest replacement panels today. They do NOT have clear spars. I thought all replacement panels now come in clear. A few years back I replaced my Sequel III panels and they came with clear spars. And this model is older than the ReQuest. I was really hoping for the...

    Speaker covers for electrostatic panels

I'm thinking of making cloth speaker covers for the electrostatic panels in hopes that they will stay cleaner longer and therefor last longer and I won't have to spend that jacked up price to replace them so soon. Anyone ever try this? Any suggestions? Any negative effects?

Cambridge Audio - Stream Magic 6 - Upsampling Nework Music Player

Thinking of getting this unit along with a NAS system. What I most like about it over other digital file players: Looks like a regular piece of stereo equipment in standard width. Don't need to boot up a computer to play music right away. It doesn't seem like there are that many other options...

    Sound profing BASS

I might be purchasing a townhouse soon but if i do, I'll have to sound proof at least one wall. Bass is something I really want to block from going into my neighbor's home. What's the best thing to do about that? Would making a brick wall be better and more economical than other solutions?

    Difference compared to inexpensive cables?

I was just reading some recent posts about silver cables making systems sound bright. So, if there are differences in detected sound between different high end cables, I would assume there are differences between basic/cheap speaker cables too. (I'm talking about a pair of 10 -15' speaker...

30 years into the Future with HOME audio?

I was just reading about the movie TRON and it got me thinking, what the future with home audio equipment will be like. Not necessarily of he technology but will there even be HOME audio? With the stereo electronics industry dominating in portable electronics, manufactures of home stereo...

    Are the new panels better?

Are the replacement panels for the older model ML speakers ( early 2000's and older) any better than the originals? In particular, I am interested in the aspect of longevity. If so, how much better? Originals are said to last an average of 11-15 years.

    What is your WAF level?

Not that we ever argued over it, but before I got married, I told my wife to be that she can do anything she wants to any room but one room. That would be the living room, where the stereo system would be. I was just wondering what your WAF/HAF swith your significant other? I understand that...
