    Electromotion ESL Questions

The wires from the panel to the crossover is screwed in so removing them is pretty simple. You can ask ML support to send you documentation on how to remove the panels. While you are at it I suggest you add some sound dampening in it. All the higher end models have some sound dampening...

Wire Gauge of power cord for Ethos

Hi, I just picked up a pair of Ethos on ebay ($2,000 is a good price?) and I read a review somewhere that said their homemade ROMEX power cord sounded better than stock. Does anyone know what the wire gauge is for the stock cable? I wonder if the 14g wire from Pangea would be an upgrade...

    What about Cables ?

If I did that to my living room it would be grounds for divorce :(

Is the new EM-ESL C center any good?

I'm curious to see how it stacks against the original Stage. I have mine 2 feet from the back wall but still not really impressed by it.

Is the Martin Logan brand declining?

Same with me as well. The first time I listened to electrostatic speakers was a private VIP room in a club around 20 yrs ago. I was into car audio at the time (in my 20's) but it made a very big impression. I never heard anything so transparent and so clear. It was like sound was coming out...

Is the Martin Logan brand declining?

Good point Rich. With more people making purchase decisions solely based on internet research it would make it more imperative for ML to establish an online presence. Mis information can easily sink new products. Considering the cost of traditional marketing, having a couple of people manage...

Is the Martin Logan brand declining?

I see it as different technology. Paradigm are dynamic drivers whiles Martin Logan are ribbon/electrostatic. Each have their own distinct sound and don't really compete with each other too much (that's why both brands have a products in all price ranges).

Is the Martin Logan brand declining?

I think ML is missing a big opportunity by either not participating in owner forums or hosting one themselves. The idea of connecting to your customers is crucial to building a respected brand. Throwing up pictures and specs on your website is not enough. People want to ask questions and get...

Is the Martin Logan brand declining?

If ML and the moderators are willing I think ML should have their own section so they have a platform for Q&A.

    Woofer firing front and back

For OB woofers I think the dipole would actually be a benefit because the dipole radiation would reduce room interaction. The only real downside of OB subs is that they don't play as loud as enclosed woofers.

    Woofer firing front and back

I would love to see ML use an open baffle design with a servo amplifier. I think it would blend better with the electrostatic panels.

    Esl x vs esl

For the price of a new pair of ESL X, I would rather buy a pair of used Montis. It's powered, has a lower X-over point and is better built.

    Exhausted with research...Need help...

Here's how I put my system together for under $6,500. My total cost is $6,250 for a full 5.1 system (minus cables and wires) Electromotion ESL (Used) - $1,000, bought from some rich kid who was moving to college. Stage (New) - $1,500, outgoing model from AudioAdvisor Pair of FX2 (New, I...

    Exhausted with research...Need help...

The lack of bracing in the cabinet cause cancellation at lower frequency due to resonance. I paid $1,000 for my pair of Electromotions so I can't complain. If i had to spend $2,400 I would pick up a pair of used Vantages. The panels are bigger and have a lower crossover point to the woofers...

    Exhausted with research...Need help...

Oh and my suggestion is NOT to get the Electromotion ESL. I opened mine up to add some sound dampening and the cabinet design is nowhere near where it should be for it's price point.

    Exhausted with research...Need help...

I think your money can go a lot further if you are willing to buy used gear. Another advantage is if/when you upgrade your components you can sell the gear back for almost as much as you paid for them (or even make a profit if you get a good deal). A good place to look for used gear is...

    DAC for ESL

I'm not sure if there's any ESL specific DAC's but since you have a solid state amp you might want to look at DAC's with a tube buffer to warm the sound. I normally use the built in DAC in my Marantz 7702mk2 since my system is mostly used for HT now but I have hooked up my Aune T1 Mk2 DAC(now...

    ML and T+A yukk

I have the Electromotions with a Sunfire amp and I have to agree that the lower mid bass is the weakest part. Compared to my friend's AV123 RS850 Rockets there's less of a kick with percussion instruments. It got a little better than after I sound dampened the enclosure but still not as good...

    The DON / redux

Uranium is only really used for fission nuclear reactors which the rest the world is moving away from. Modern day nuclear weapons uses plutonium fission and and hydrogen fusion (thermonuclear). Uranium also isn't that rare or dangerous naturally. I ordered some from Amazon before.
