    Coming back into the fold

After owning just about every old ML (SL3's, Aerius, ReQuest, CLS, Ascents) I've been "roughing it" with some simple Boston Acoustics towers while I remodel the house. Well, couldn't stand it anymore. Going to pickup a pair of Vantages over lunch today. Will be a nice fit with the Grotto sub...

    Dynamo vs Depth

I'm curious if anyone has experience with both. I owned a depth for a while, but decided to sell it (original version Depth), which was a mistake. I went with a DT Supercube, but it's too much of a one-note sub. It will rattle the windows, but doesn't blend well. I found the Dynamo really...

    SL3 xstat?

Has anyone replaced their panels on the SL3 with the latest xstat panels? Notice a difference?

    reQuests for advice

danman, I've owned the Eros II, CLS, SL3, Aerius, and Request. I completely understand about the narrow sweet spot of the Sander's designs. I transitioned from the Eros to the CLS then the Request. My experience mirrors MiTT's, the CLS were slightly more cohesive, but had such a lack of bass...

Crossover caps for Sequels... anyone familiar with Auricap?

I did an Auricap upgrade on my Requests with good results. Here's the article: http://www.martinloganowners.com/~tdacquis/forum/showthread.php?t=126

New ICEPower amp on the way

It's been so long since I listened to those amps in my system that I don't thing I could give a very constructive review. The amp it replaces is a Rotel, and it is significantly more detailed with much better defined instruments. Based on memory I'd say it is competitive with the Sunfire and...

New ICEPower amp on the way

Yup, that's where I got them. Very nice amps, very clean with loads of power and detail. Very low noise floor. Some sibilance, but that seems to be more recording dependent. For $499 they are a screaming deal. These amps can compete with Krell, Classe, Bel Canto, etc.. and are dirt cheap.

New ICEPower amp on the way

Just ordered one of the close-out NHT Amplifier 2's. At $499 I couldn't pass it up. It's supposed to have the latest B&O modules. I'll follow up with listening impressions on my SL3's.

Are these comments about the CLS accurate?

Ditto...at what it does, the CLS is about as good as you can get, but it's bass is lacking. Look at all the hoops ML had to jump through to get the CLX to generate good bass (though I haven't heard it, I'm going soely on Tom's evaluation). A CLS with a sub would probably be all the music...

    I would be sorely tempted....

Don't bother with the iPod, or you're stuck with it's built-in DAC's. Get an Apple TV or an Airport Express. Both of these have optical digital outputs so that you can use a decent DAC. Even a cheap DAC is a big step up from what's in the iPod. I use an Apple TV as my main music server...

    CLS's for HT?

I tried using CLS's for a mixed theater-music setup, but found that the mid-bass "hole" on the CLS became much more apparent when trying to listen to movies. They lost their impact, even with a pair of subs. When I first hooked them up they sounded great, wonderful dialog, but after a while I...

    System #49 (SL3)

Man, I forgot my system was still up here...I'll have to update it.... Those are HomeDepot can up-lights. About $12 each. Little white cans with swivel bases. I use 20w mini projection-style bulbs.

Please recommend budget $1,000 amp for Vistas--What would *you* buy?

As they say: "Your mileage may vary" My experience as been the opposite. The Bel Canto I had sounded clearer, with more distinct notes (hence the SET reference) and a lower noise floor than the high end solid state amps I compared it to. It is a different sound, but I'm a resolution junkie so...

Please recommend budget $1,000 amp for Vistas--What would *you* buy?

Personally I'm a fan of digital amps, they have a level of detail and "SET" sound that I really like. You can get a used PS Audio HCA-2 for around $700 or some Murano ICEPower amps for $900 or so.

Did I buy the wrong speakers? Vistas bad for classical music?

Peter, also try taking your speakers and pulling them 2' farther out into the room than they are right now and see if they sound better. It's a free test...

    Spades or bananas?

I use bananas, spades are great, but have a tendency to work themselves loose. Seems no matter how much I tighten them, I come back a couple of months later and they are loose again.

Home Theater and Electrostats and ribbons !

I find that Logans deliver more detail and lifelike vocals than any other speaker. For the very reason they are so good on music vocals is why they are so good on movies. Personally I don't care for a center channel. The only reason to use one is to ensure proper vocal placement for...

Ordered the Sunfire - need preamp advice

Personally I'd say don't sweat HDMI. I use a Monoprice HDMI switcher and programmed it into my Harmony remote and it works great. Given the top dollar for high end HDMI switching preamps, I'd say this is the safe approach for now. Get a good preamp and add an external HDMI switch. On the...
