Summit X - Solid State Amp Opinions

Hi: My friend lent me an Accuphase E-480 for one week in August. Strengths were in the lower mid-range and bass frequencies, and instrument timbre. Image depth and a comparative dryness were it’s weak points. I would have been happy with it if I hadn’t heard the EAR V20. It makes me appreciate...

Summit X - Solid State Amp Opinions

A friend is lending me his Accuphase E-480 in mid-August to see how it sounds with the Renaissance 15a’s. I’m currently using the EAR v20 integrated amp, which works wonderfully with the 15a’s, but I can’t pass on this offer. I’ll report back with my impressions.

    Accessories and Tweaks

Hi Russr: I’m in the north end of Toronto. The view is looking away from the city, in a high floor of a condo. I keep my window blinds up all of the time, and the Stillpoints Aperture panels mitigate the reflections off of the windows.

    Accessories and Tweaks

Here’s a list of accessories and tweaks I’ve purchased over the years. It’s fun trying out new devices, but I think I’ve reached my limit :) Some have made a noticeable difference (tier 1), others I’m not so sure (tier 3). Tier 1: - speaker placement - Stillpoints Aperture Panels, on front...

Covering a 15a panel with a pillow case

I received my custom-made silk speaker covers. They’re easy to use, and don’t appear to cause static build-up.

Anthem Room Correction and 15a Firmware Updates

After moving my speakers 6” closer together, I reran the Anthem room correction software. The software indicated there was a new release, and it also asked if I wanted to install a new release of the 15a firmware. This is the first time I’ve encountered a firmware update. I couldn’t find...

I’ve ordered a set of covers from my Etsy source. When they arrive I’ll post some photos.

Covering a 15a panel with a pillow case

You’re right, the 15a’s do come with a cover. However, it’s clunky because it covers the entire speaker, including the base cabinet. I want to cover the panel only, and be easy to use.

Covering a 15a panel with a pillow case

DaveA mentioned he purchased pillow cases to cover the panels on his speakers. That’s a great idea, but I couldn’t find a size that works for the 15a. I found a local supplier on Etsy who can make a custom-sized cover. I’m thinking of using a black silk material to avoid static electricity. Am I...

    System #114 (Summit)

After reading a posting from a user praising Sanders speaker cables, I checked Canuck Audio Mart and found them for sale in my area, along with 11a’s. For less than $350CAN, I thought I’d give the cables a try. The seller delivered them within hours, and I’ve had them running for a week. Sanders...

Tilting forward the Renaissance ESL 15A

The 15A’s two 12” dynamic woofer drivers, each powered by a 500W class-D amplifier, produce a solid low end. The EAR V20 excels at imaging, and is capable of driving the panels to produce a full sound that fills up the room, e.g., music from a large orchestra. I recently purchased the Inakustik...

    More Feet/Spike Advice

I installed IsoAcoustics footers soon after I purchased the ELS 15A’s. On a hardwood floor they produced a better sound presentation than the stock footers. A few months ago a friend let me try out the Stillpoints Ultra 6 isolation feet. There was a pronounced improvement in the bass frequencies...

Tilting forward the Renaissance ESL 15A

Thanks Brad, Peter and all for your advice. With old copper pennies under the spikes, speaker tilt is minimal. The biggest improvement resulted from moving my listening chair back 14’ from the speakers. After adjusting toe-in and the position of the Stillpoints Aperture panels, I’m happy with...

Tilting forward the Renaissance ESL 15A

Hi All: I quickly realized the speaker tilt was too extreme, so I found another set of footers that weren’t so high. The speakers are now tilted forward by 1”. The improvement is most noticeable with vocal music. When listening to Kathleen Battle singing Mozart arias, I can imagine her standing...
