New CLS IIa owner - Martin Logan Super System

Check out the Anthem MCA 225 mk 2 amp, a used one is in your price range and are a solid amp that play well with stats. I used one for mine for a couple years before getting the Sanders Magtech.

To close this loop I purchased the primaluna evo 400 preamp and she’s working wonderfully in the system! I couldn’t find much support in terms of reviews or even with dealers for that McIntosh preamp so I went with the primaluna.

    Tubes or Solid State

Primaluna evo 400 tube preamp with a Sanders Magtech powering my panels works very well! I’ve heard it before that tube amps don’t seem to work great with stats, that’s why I’m getting the “tube” on the front end!

New Sanders MAGTECH amp - Pt. 1 unboxing, installation & connection

I’ve the magtech running panels on my classic 9’s, an anthem mca225 on the woofers. But did try the sanders bi-wired to my speakers. Sounded great, definitely an improvement over the anthem alone. Certainly no issue on the bass. You had some biwire connections initially I believe, try that.

On topic I’ve inquired of Rose about the set output versus variable (preamp) settings to see if there’s any difference in them. Note that when you select the fixed output there’s a menu of output levels to select from). There’s a large forum community and like me, many have found it sounds...

Thanks for that, yes I already have the rose unit and a great phono preamp so I don’t really need the all in one preamp like the STR, Anthem does make great equipment though and my McA225 mk2 did well for me for a couple years, now it drives my bottom end as the Magtech is definitely better on...

Trust me I read the TAS review before buying the unit so I hoped it might function OK as a preamp too, but it was bought primarily as a streaming DAC with better performance than what is in the NAD. In that regard it’s a definite step up. It’s no cheap streamer and pocket DAC kind of set up...

Just for reference the RS150B is $5k new not $10k, I got it used for $3k. While the reviews are pretty unilateral positive of the unit as a streamer and DAC (it also does some really nice video), most suggest you connect it to a preamp (in which case it’s a fixed output). Can you use it as a...

Well I can say I don’t care for the Rose unit as a preamp, even compared to the NAD C658, it’s too harsh and analytical sounding, the NAD is warmer and smoother….reinforcing my thoughts that it will benefit from a good preamp. The Prima luna evo 400 gets rave reviews and short of having a...

Thank you for the response! I can’t say I’m a McIntosh fan, never owned one, the C8 is a sexy little beast though and at least tickled the eyes, I’ve yet to hear one. I’ll check up on this Rhumba unit though, it certainly ticks the boxes, I’ve just never heard of them.

I will try that plus with NAD as preamp e but from what I’ve read the sound is better with a preamp versus just using the rose unit as one.

You apparently didn’t read my post, I have a new streamer and I have a phono preamp. I’m looking at preamps for the amps.

I’m at that point where I am upgrading my front end. My current preamp / streamer is the NAD C658, which has been fine but is my weak link in my opinion. I’m receiving today the Hifi Rose RS150B streamer / DAC, so that will handle those duties. I also have a phono preamp I really like (black...

Which is better: Purity or Theo

Martin Logan’s own amplifier gear is simply rebranded Anthem gear (open one up and you’ll see), I used an MCA225 mk2 amp with great success, but have that now driving the woofers and a Sanders Magtech on the panels, the Sanders amps are bliss to stats.

Long-Time ML Montis User - Experience and Impressions

I’ve found stereo imaging with my classic 9’s in a highly acoustic treated room is excellent, prior to the treatments not nearly so.

    SANDERS AMPS PRICE DROP !

I’ve a Magtech running the panels on my classic 9’s, it’s amazing.

    Hi--new ESL9 owner here.

Fellow “9” owner here, they’re a great speaker with the ability to show you the benefits of equipment upgrades in a very evident way! So as the upgrade bug bites you will hear the rewards! Congrats!

ESL 3 Inherited for an outdoor shed

Actually spraying with simple green will help breakdown any organics in there which you probably need since they were stored like that. Just use a diluted solution in a spray bottle let it set a couple minutes then rinse well with tap water then rinse them with distilled water and let air dry...

    amp upgrade under consideration

I’m using the Sanders Magtech to drive panels in my classic 9’s (yes overkill you might think), but I can’t imagine a better mate to the panels than Sanders. My prior amp, while rated at 400w at 4 ohms was clearly out of breath on the high end given the clarity the Magtech provides. As a friend...

    Unbalanced sound output

Wet them, spray with the detergent and let it set for a minute or so, rinse with regular water then do the distilled water rinse. Supposedly you don’t really need to work the back side of the panels.
