    Places of interest

I thought it might be interesting to have a look around at some of the fascinating places that might seem ordinary to locals, but quite exotic to people from further afield. Since I was there this morning, here’s Frank Slide, Alberta, Canada. I’ll let the photographs tell the story.

    Eivør - Slør

Eivør sings in Faroese, Icelandic and English. The album Slør is available in two versions; the original Icelandic/Faroese and a later English issue. One of Eivør’s best known songs, Trollabundin, is on this album.

    Beethoven Symphonies

Daniel Barenboim - Berlin Staatskapelle - Warner Classics Back in the bad old days (when we still had two Germanys) the Berlin Staatskapelle was the wrong side of the Berlin Wall and was one of the Soviet bloc’s favourite orchestras. During that time, the orchestra was conducted by Otmar...

NEW SITE - HOPING TO SEE MORE ACTIVITY

Difficult one to answer. Forums might feel like old hat to some, in these days of instant feedback on social media platforms. Personally, I’d rather read a few well thought out forum posts, written by knowledgeable people, than trawl through a load of garbage, but maybe that’s just me. (I don’t...

    Dream Theater

The first item on today's agenda is a live album, spanning 3 CDs. There are also 2 DVDs or a BluRay in the box. Live At Luna Park, recorded in Buenos Aires, in 2013. Now playing: Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos

    Dream Theater

I'm currently trawling through the extensive Dream Theater catalogue. For anyone who doesn't know, they are a well established band in the "progressive metal" genre. Over the years, the band has seen some lineup changes, but has retained a fresh approach to music and has produced some great...

    Speaker wire/interconnect?

I find that length of cable makes absolutely no difference. I use 12 gauge terminated in banana plugs, which according to "certain" sources means that my Theos speakers sound like something I could have bought at Walmart. I beg to differ. Advantages of using over-long cables - moving equipment...

    Beethoven: Symphony #6 ("Pastoral")

Just lifted this recommendation from another forum. The guy who wrote this is something of a music nut. Haven't heard the recordings, but thought I'd pass the info along.

Anti-spambot registration procedures - NEWBIES PLEASE READ

Looks like I may have worn out my welcome already. From my experience in moderating forums which use the vBulletin software, I'm pretty sure my posts are all ending up in the QuickMod area, probably because I joined and uploaded images. I think I'll give up and try again tomorrow.

    The Essential Jean Michel Jarre.

One of the best VHS concerts I ever owned was Paris La Defense, by JMJ. It's notable for being the third largest concert ever, topped only by another JMJ concert in Moscow and one by some guy called Rod Stewart in Rio de Janeiro. 2.5 million people thronged the streets of Paris for the...

    The Dreaded Nextel Goo Syndrome

Here's an MSDS for the product (or a similar one, at least). I have no wish to be a scaremonger but The Material Safety Data Sheet yields good information, which is obviously its purpose. Looks like the substance is an irritant, non-carcinogenic. Reading the MSDS, my main concern would be eye...

    Replacement Jumper Cables

Any and all biwireable speakers that pass through my hands suffer the same treatment. It may be snake oil, and I'm sure the speaker manufacturers know what they are doing when they fit those little bridges, but I can't resist it, so in goes about a foot of suitably terminated 10 gauge speaker...

    Beethoven: Symphony #6 ("Pastoral")

I've yet to hear a bad recording of the 6th. My go-to version is by Claudio Abbado conducting the Berlin Philharmonic. I do, however, have an interesting version; the transcription by Franz Liszt for piano, played by Cyprien Katsaris.

    Hi from Alberta

Hi all, Discovered this forum by way of another one. Apparently, you guys are friendly, knowledgeable and as nuts about equipment as I am, so here I am. Looking forward to meeting like-minded people to chat with about music in general and ML products in particular.
