    Expression 13A's --Music Room

Of the 4 DSP systems I've tried, the best has been Anthem with Martin Logan, but this is because the system adjusts only the amplifier built into the bass enclosure - it therefore has absolutely nil effect on the panel. 3 other systems I've tried (RoomPerfect, Dirac Live and MARS) have all...

    Expression 13A's --Music Room

Certainly 13As must not be placed too far forward from the back wall - or other speakers that project as much energy backwards as forwards for that matter. In my room 13As were a disaster and I sold them after a short time. However they were 12 ft and 15 ft forward of the wall behind them -...

Can I make this living room work?

It may help if you could add a sketch to show the floorplan and where you intend to place your speakers - and which speakers you are considering. I had ML 13As in a large and difficult room where the MLs were most unhappy so they have now been sold. Not due to the size of the room, but their...

    Black finish

Like many paint materials it needs to be used with care but it's used for my Avantgarde speakers too. If applying at home, I'm sure the instructions will say use in a well ventilated space (ideally outdoors) and wear a face mask and probably goggles. Once dried, it's as safe as any finish.

    Renaissance 15A Considerations

I don't have experience with the amps you mention with my 13As, but I did buy a Sanders Magtech specifically for the MLs. I also had a Gamut D200 Mk III. Both seemed to be good matches with the 13As but I decided to sell the Sanders (no good with Avantgardes) and the 13As (no good in my...

    Renaissance 15A Considerations

I too considered the Revel Studio 2s when I decided to upgrade from 2002 Avantgarde Unos. I didn't mainly because I thought they were possibly rather long in the tooth and I should be looking at newer designs. Also, having successfully tried Quad 2905s (with 2912 mods), I thought that...

    Renaissance 15A Considerations

I think your wife has probably made the right decision! How did the Summits perform in your room? I suspect you may have wanted a bit more oomph. I bought 13As but probably should have gone for the 15As, although the additional cost is excessive. The 15A stands upright compared with the laid...

    Renaissance 15A Considerations

Yes, probably up to about 6 ft is fine. My speakers are 12 ft and 15 ft in front of a curved floor-to-ceiling glazed wall. Far from good for electrostatics but fine for horns! Peter

    Renaissance 15A Considerations

My room is 945 sq ft with 7'7 ceilings so a little over 7000 cu ft. I bought 13As speakers but probably should have gone for 15A. I was advised by others on this forum that 13As would be good. Unfortunately the MLs disappointed but not because of their size. They were placed mid-room and...

    More Feet/Spike Advice

Yes, it seems the Gaia III is good for Montis. Montis weighs 26.3 kg and a set of 4 Gaia IIIs is good for 32 kg. Lucky you - my speakers require Gaia Is at about 4 times the price! I doubt the Montis needs the extra long threads as the standard feet make contact with the thread in the base...

    More Feet/Spike Advice

Don't use Gaia IIIs if you should be using Gaia IIs. Their recommended maximum load should not be exceeded as performance drops off quite quickly if overloaded. The 11A, 13A, 15A range that have amps built into their bases require a special long thread for Gaias, but IsoAcoustic now know...

    Martin Logan vs. Other Speakers

Well that's interesting. My own experience with MLs (13As) is that they really do need a rear wall (the one behind the speakers) for them to sound good. Maybe some wall treatment is needed but no wall (or a very distant wall) results in poor sound. I found this out in my own room where the...

    Martin Logan vs. Other Speakers

You may be surprised. All the women in my life really love the Avantgardes and wanted me to sell the MLs before I had a real chance to test them. Since that photo was taken (of the earlier Unos), I've changed to Duos and modified their appearance to make them seem more "friendly" by ditching...

    Martin Logan vs. Other Speakers

Hi Neil I was very interested to read your post. Like you, I enjoy female vocals and like you I was considering a change in speakers last year. My experience was from a rather different starting point, but it may be helpful in your search. Since about 2002 I've had Avantgarde Uno horn...

    CLX Art To The Wall

You'd have to be about 6 ft from the 13A or 11A for them to be correctly tilted. The 15A is vertical - the 11a and 13A should be near vertical unless you want nearfield monitoring - in which case you don't want Martin Logans! If they were built vertical and you wanted to sit very close (or on...
