Any Oppo bdp-83/93/103 Comparisons On Analog Out?

I saw that option on their web page, I'll look into it if it's still valid. What tangible improvements are to be had by the SE upgrade?

Any Oppo bdp-83/93/103 Comparisons On Analog Out?

Off to Oppo it goes then. I figure I'll be better of getting an inexpensive blu-ray player for the duration. There are no dedicated analog stereo outs on the 93/103, so a refurbed or dent/ scratch 95 would be the next step. Thanks.

Long wall or short wall placement

I agree, speakers in front of the short wall with room treatment on the side reflection points for a start.

Any Oppo bdp-83/93/103 Comparisons On Analog Out?

Not too long ago I got my hands on a used Oppo BDP83. I bought it for blu-ray capabilities for the most part and the reputed cd playback superiority as an added bonus, if real. After using the right inputs in my processor and doing a same cd syncronized in both cd players comparo, the Oppo does...

The quest for hi-fi: a desease?

Not too long ago a good friend and associate of mine passed away suddenly. My most recent memory of him was of he being in my living room being asked to suffer a demonstration of my stereo. He kindly obliged with stoic grace, knowing he was going to hear something quite different from what I...

    Quality of music

Not so much as a lack of quality formats (and frankly, CD's still work for me) but the sheer lack of quality content is what I find both disconcerting and depressing. David Lowery published a good online article on the cause of the decline of good music in general. In a nutshell, the "new" model...

    The Only Subwoofer

its a $400.00 Variable frequency drive, a bunch of transducers, maybe 3 grand max for the motor/fan assembly and probably not-rocket science electronics. DIY, $7500.00 tops installed. Gotta love this high end business.

    Subwoofer questions

Your best bet may be getting at least two low to mid priced 10" or 12" subs and find out for yourself what is involved in getting the sound you want. If I was in your situation with the room in your photo, I'd go for a pair of Outlaw Audio subs. They're cheap and have a good enough rep that they...

    Can't Have Too Many Subs!

Just for the heck of it, still trying to get rid of some room nodes, i put a third sub online. Its the cheapo one I have on the idiot box, with its own built in amp. At first it was an enormous cock-up but with a little perseverance (obsession) all worked out better than it started. All signals...

Jim Smith Get Better Sound DVD

Most info in the book can be gleaned off the internet such as here, The chapter on cathedral ceilings was a stunner, from my own experience, ass backward, and any justification for esoterica such as bronze loose change bowls, no matter how qualified, is pure hucksterism in my opinion. The basic...

Tri-amplification with ML Aeon with cross over

If indeed your washed panels are as good as new then you should not need additional tweeters. What you have are 3 different amps that are going to have 3 different operating parameters. you will need some kind of sound meter and tone generator to dial any kind of outboard crossover in correctly...
