I have been meaning to post this review for quite a while and decided that now is the time.
Artist: Eduardo Eguez
Title: The Lute Music of Johann Sebastian Bach, volume two
Released: 2002
Label: M A Recordings (www.marecordings.com)
Genre: Solo Lute
This CD is composed of transcriptions of Bach's Partita in E major (F major) BWV 1006a; Sonata in G minor BWV 1001; Suite in G major (E-flat major) BWV 1007; and Prelude in C minor BWV 999
Recorded in the Convent of the Annunciation in Italy this is possibly how Bach heard these works. A high rez recording transfered to standard RBCD, volume two recreates the ambience of the instrument and space beautifully. Unlike transcriptions for guitar (see John Williams on Columbia M2 33510) the clarity of each line is clearly delineated and immersed in a beautiful acoustic that bring the music to life to these ears. Eguez' technical skill is highlighted by the transparent recording and the suitable distance from the listener.
Highly recommended to those who enjoy baroque music played on an appropriate instrument and beautifully recorded.
Volume one is recommended also.
