Summit: Technical Problem - need advise

You may be able to check sub phasing on both speakers is the same by (briefly) touching and removing a 1.5 v torch cell accross the sub terminals and watching whether the cones both jump forward with the same battery orientation?

CLS II: New panels or new Logans?

maybe to late to be of use but: CLSII's can be down in vol in one channel for several other reasons other than just the Stat. My feeling is you should suspect the power supply first. Mylar usually doesn't fail catastrophically, but will drop off slowly...some of the early mylar would arc to the...

    CLS2 to CLS2z conversion

I have a few ML speakers. My CLS2's were changed to CLS2a config. some time ago with the ML (in field) circuit changes and I intended at some stage to do the CLS2z conversion. I got most of the parts I needed, including Mundorf Supreme Film caps ( a bundle to make up the 50 mF equiv.) and Erse...

    Martin Logan's ..power cable choice.

Well I started making my own heavy cables from commercial 2.5mm2 shielded cables and poo poo'ed the thought that it could make any diff. (except shielding (EMI) and current draw). Then I inhereted some OCC copper cables with the Halcros. When I compared this cable on my CD (easiest and fastest...

ML Summit X tweak for warmer tonal balance?

Looking at the dates in some of the quoted links in this thread, I would think you would need to treat some of the info with more than a little scepticism. You really do need to know what century the article was written in before giving the info too much weight. If you go back far enough...

    Martin Logan's ..power cable choice.

I don't want to open a can of worms, but I have gone from being a 'sceptic' to a 'believer' in "good power cables". I have a scientific background, but have had to 'leave my science at the door' as to why this works..lots of unproven theories out there. I have had significant gains from power...

Best Sub for ML's speakers without woofer??

I have a couple of REL subs. Best is the B2, but have to cross it below 40Hz and with vol way down to almost off. On rear wall I find the REL seamless with CLS and CLS2a. Problem I find with the super low freq subs is they will pick up ALL sub music sounds (below 25Hz) esp on vinyl. The B2 is a...

Best Amp to Drive CLS I's????

I agree with Tom and Lagonda. Krell will do everything you could wish for as far as control is concerned. I LIKE the Krell sound..not everyone does, but that is the nature of this hobby we have in common. (I enjoy other flavours also :music:) On the stability side, even the Krell FPB 200 (baby)...

    Amp choice for CLS IIz

I completely agree with CAP...room compatibility is a HUGE factor! I'd try the combo out to see if it delivers the music your ears like.:music: (so many variables) I'd love to be able to compare the two sets of speakers together with the same amp (or a few different amps if you can get some...

Connecting to wall outlets...is this right?

My .02. Probaby need to know the current capability of the conditioner. The current requirements of the amps (incl sub). I dont know how the Panamax rates as a conditioner and some critics feel that lower level conditioners can degrade the signal. What is generally acknowlwdged is that all...

    Panel Dead

I'd check for simple fixes first. Connections, power in, fuse on power supply board (if one). Sometimes the iec socket can get contacts to PCB broken, if it is not securely screwed to the chassis. cheers, Greg

    Which cls do I have?

From what I can see. CLS (first series) panels ....from the clips, wires and spacer gaps. The power supply boards are unusual layout. Not CLS (integral board with X over),or CLS2 and not latest config. ML could well have had this as a variation on power board mid CLS2 series. Possibly new...

    CLSII panels with CLS1 electronics?

Hi Oxford Board looks exactly as the drawing above. I have only just got my new RSA foil cables supported (and burning in), tied to a hole through the top plate and base box and it is going to mean removing my cabling and would rather not just atm. The ends are contiguous milled foil (and...

Quest Z stator earth is also AC power earth

Hi Krazi, I have run Krell FPB amps into CLS (neg post has E pot.) for ages..No Problem. My understanding is "fully balanced output" has no chassis earth involved in the output signal and no potential to seek E unless it is given that potential further back up the interconnect wiring chain...

    CLSII panels with CLS1 electronics?

Photo of Jim's hand drawn diagram attached. Modern panels (pretty much includes all replacement panel and OEM panels from early 1990's) had better electrostatic dispersion coatings and didn't need to be charged up quite as high to make them jump when they saw speaker signal. The connectors...

    Lifetime Service for MartinLogan Products

Great News. I wonder what that actually means, when some of the parts they say they can't source anymore. eg the 10kV cap for the CLS2 series to name just one? Hopefully at least CLS panels may be still available even if the cost becomes prohibitive.

Outstanding amount of info in that thread...thanks for the link.

    CLSII panels with CLS1 electronics?

When I got my first replacement panels for my first CLS (1987) in 1992, Jim sent out a PCB mod to do to lower the bias to suit the new (more electrically efficient) mylar. Bias was reduced from about 5.5kV to 4.4-4.6kV (ideal). A group of diodes and caps were removed (and a jumper wire fitted)...

Recommended Tube Amp for CLS I model

I agree, the CLS2, 2a (and to a lesser degree) 2z are a tougher load and amp stability is paramount. I was referring to EAR driving an old set of CLS. Most of my listening to all of the CLS range has been with big (ish) SS amps and I was impressed with that valve matching. I agree also re...

Recommended Tube Amp for CLS I model

CLS Valve Amp Choice I heard a EAR driving one of my sets of CLS the other day. VERY good amp amp and superb bass control with these fussy speakers. Not huge power, but drove the speakers to louder than I would generally listen to without any problem. If I didn't have the Halcro I would have...
