    MartinLogan Motion Series coming soon

Wow, that's why they are discounting the Preface and now the Encore TFs. I wonder how the new Motion Tower (the one that MSRPs for $1,499/pair) stacks up against the Preface interms of imaging & overall sound quality. I still have one more week left for returning the Preface speakers at...

Thanks! I love the speakers and have now probably 40 hours of break-in listening. But electrostatics are sexy and I want em just for looks alone! LOL

Have a quick question to the experts here... would the Preface match with ML Source towers? My next plan is to purchase a pair of Source electrostatics and use them as fronts, moving 2 of the Preface towers to surround duty, while retaining the 3rd one as center. I just don't know of the...

auditioned the ML preface at Best Buy

I too auditioned all the speakers at the Magnolia store... I basically just narrowed the ones I sampled to speakers at $1,500/pair and below and sure enough, the Preface towers were the ones that sounded best to my ears. I'd be curious though how they compare to similar priced Polks RTi-A9s...

    Critique my setup plans

OP, I'm also curious about the Descent sub... what's the pricing on the one you found?

^ I agree... with the setup you have in mind, this will absolutely be great when playing 5.1 concerts, SACDs/DVD-As, and ACTION movies. You could set your Abyss' crossover to 80HZ and it will still be able to do a lot of low end work for your fronts.

    Critique my setup plans

Sounds like it might work... I don't see how it could impact SQ if he does set the receiver's setting to full range on his L/R fronts, since the receiver will now channel the full range signal to the L/R channels with both Abyss subs doing front low-end duty, leaving the Descent with just the...

    ML Preface

I currently have an Onkyo TX-SR806 driving 3 Preface speakers in L-C-R configuration and old KEF Q80s as rear surrounds. If I were in your case, I'd skip the 707 if you aren't buying an external amp (it might be underpowered). I would either get...

Well, I wouldn't really be able to do that for a couple of reasons... first, the wife only approved the purchase of the MLs because she would regularly complain about the clarity of the dialogue when watching DVDs/Bluerays, even though the Polk CSi5 got pretty good reviews when I bought it over...

Jim, very nice setup with your room acoustics and layout. I might do the same with my old Polks, a 10" Athena powered sub, and an older Technics DTS/Dolby-Digital receiver, since there is a spare bedroom with nothing in it, mostly thinking of converting it to a listening/gaming room with a PC...

So now that the short review is out of the way, I have a couple of questions: 1.) Do I really need to upgrade with an external amp to drive the ML Preface speakers? The 806 is THX certified down to 4ohms (Ultra2), and it does seem to handle the MLs without any hickups, but I want to get the...

Hi all! I'm new to the forum and happy owner of 3 new ML Preface tower speakers (that's right, 3! LOL). I know it's unusual, but read on... Let me start by saying that I've been admiring these speakers for awhile now. I first auditioned them at the local Magnolia-Bestbuy store over a year...
