That's not a double blind decision, but ok...

    Integrated Amp Choice?

Dating back to the 80's stereo review tests, the Levinson Carver test, Dunlavy and many more, they PROVE to be ego crushers for audio snobs. That is...audio snobs listen with the wallet all top often. "There is no way a $2,000 amp can sound as good as a $10,000 amp" but...in every single DBT...

    Integrated Amp Choice?

Ok you are right, DBT is not BS, that's just YOUR perception. Man, measurements and testing just don't work on magic....right?

    Integrated Amp Choice?

Well, I'm just sick of the hype. The hyper-pricing , especially of stuff that's actually made in China. How often does someone TRULY listen and audition vs just look at price tags and go from there? There are other choices that sound as good as Krell for less money. Problem is....no one...

    Integrated Amp Choice?

Too many blind test indicate most of it is placebo effect.

    Integrated Amp Choice?

I'm flat earth. I don't see a used Krell as a great value compared to a new Rogue audio. I never got into the Krell kool-aid anyway...but the arbitrary high pricing of the gear gives it this halo effect. I doubt that anyone could tell Krell from any number of less costly brands in a double...

    Integrated Amp Choice?

I stopped spending $$$$ when an outlaw audio rr2150 performs right along with overpriced high end models. The Hybrid rogue audio Sphinx is a good one.

Any other big amps that should be considered?

The closest I got to that was a pair of polk audio monitor 7's for $100. I upgraded the crossovers to 1% metal poly and installed a pair of sl2000 tweeters. Amazing sound...very transparent and detailed. I still have them in my PC sound system. I bought some basket case Bose 901's with...

Any other big amps that should be considered?

Probably a set of VMPS ST/R SE (Super tower ribbons). I got them for about $2,800 at a time that they were selling for $4800. New pushpull neodymium ribbons and woven carbon fiber woofers. That, and someone gave away a Threshold stasis amp for $2000...it's a $6500 amp. I had it upgraded by...

Any other big amps that should be considered?

I was just making sure that I was one for performance....not hype. I always said that a component can be boring and flat black so long as it performs amazingly. I am waiting for a new class d audio preamp to come out soon. My days of spending the earth on gear is over.

Any other big amps that should be considered?

EGAD...I hate automotive metaphors for other high end products....I really do. There are too many variables in high end autos like a Lamborghini which might cause people to wet their pants, but that exotoc engine needs a tune up in 6,000 miles, not 100,000 at the cost of tens of grand. Other...

Any other big amps that should be considered?

Problem is muliple with the new breed of class D amps, independant of what they sound like... 1) The phrase "class D" is kryptonite to audio snobs who won't give it the time of day, or they will listen with extreme prejudice and hear whats not there just because that is their prejudice. A...

Any other big amps that should be considered?

HMM.. never heard of those.... going to peek.

Any other big amps that should be considered?

Class D audio wins. The Rogue Sphinx is nice, but it's hybrid class D, not the power I am after....though it's plenty for normal listening levels. The nuforce isn't as powerful as the class D audio, but hey...at least it's more expensive.

Any other big amps that should be considered?

By plugging them into a stereo system and listening, the same way you compare any other products.

M-L should be used as a test reference...

There is no contest. I have listened to acoustats since the 80's. The ML have a wider listening window, greater dynamics, greater efficiency, better FR, The acoustats, quads and other "brick" speakers are too limited by compare and not a consideration.

Any other big amps that should be considered?

YEARS ago... audio magazines PRAISED the crown macro reference in every way. There was no "yeah but..." it's a great sounding amp with BIG power.

    Apogee Comparison

Scinitillas never struck me as the holy grail of anything, even with a fire breathing amp that could handle 1 ohm.
  19. S

Any other big amps that should be considered?

Wrong. The class D in nuforce, class d audio and Rogue have already passed the critics reviews. None of the old school digital switching glare. I know of two people that dumped $6,000 and $7000 tube amps (Cary, Manley) and switched to the class d audio amps. Also 1 person that left...

M-L should be used as a test reference...

Not sure why I am on a MARTIN LOGAN forum and someone is repeatedly trying to steer me AWAY from MARTIN LOGAN. As I stated in my intro thread, the ESL buries the acoustat one and leaves it for dead. Not interested in acoustat. I know how to distribute my cash in a system, I already have an amp...
