    Vista

Excellent post Dreamer! :rocker: I've had the Sources which IMO are the closest to the Purities. I now have Vista's and yes... there is a very big difference between the two. I did find that I needed a powerful amp to drive them to their full potential though. One comment I make to a friend of...

    Amp Overkill?

Vista's are rated at 4 ohm. I have mine hooked up to an Emotiva XPA-2 amp (bi-wire) and it easily drives them. Even at loud volumes the sound is crisp and clear and the amp is barely warm to the touch. It may be possible that the people you read about were using older Emotiva amps. The XPA...

    Amp Overkill?

You might also want to look into Emotiva. They make some really nice stuff and you have 30 days to decide whether you like em or not.

MartinLogan Purity vs MartinLogan Source vs Other???

I think it really comes down to your budget. You can spend $1500.00 on Sources and just hook them up to your receiver. or couple them with an XPA-2 for at total of $2200 ...which BTW would kick the crap out of a set of Purity's Or you can spend $3000 on Purity's Or... You could get used...

MartinLogan Purity vs MartinLogan Source vs Other???

If he's considering Sources and/or Purity's... He can audition them at any Bestbuy that has a Magnolia room. IMO... the ML's are great for home theater. Any cone speaker/sub combo will give you great big booms and pops but where the ML's excel is in the highs and mid's where things like spent...

MartinLogan Purity vs MartinLogan Source vs Other???

Here's my experience... I started with Sources hooked up to my Yamaha RX-V663 receiver. They sounded awesome and my receiver had no problem driving the Sources. Of course being that I'm never satisfied... I had to upgrade. I found a pair of used Vista's on Audiogon and found that my receiver...

Lowest Powered Amp to drive Vantages

Thanks... Didn't know that they were rebranded Chinese units. I don't think that it necessarily means that they don't sound good. For sure it could be a PITA if anything should go wrong. Always best to err on the side of caution.

Lowest Powered Amp to drive Vantages

This company... Grant Fidelity... caught my eye a while back. They have some really interesting stuff and it's a lot more affordable than the big names. (I've never been convinced that the big name guys are better) http://grantfidelity.com/site/catalog/40/specials 65wpc Class A tube amp...

Non ML Center & Surround Speakers for a 5.1 system?

I picked up a pair of Mirage Omnisat V2's that I'm using as my rears. They're very transparent and mate up well with my system. You can pick up a pair at Crutchfield for under $600.00, There's quite a few very good reviews on them as well and if you've got quite a bit a of power going to the...

Call me crazy but they (magic dots) work!

I'm not very familiar with the science of acoustics but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. My guess would be that they (the magic dots) work similar to those shock dampers that you put in between tennis racquet strings.

System #277 (Vista, Source, Matinee, Dynamo)

What size panels did you get? I'm thinking one 24x48 panel on each side. What was the most notable difference? More mid-range?

    Electro-Mechanical Aspects

It might be a real challenge to get any technical details pertaining to the design and construction of ML current speakers. You might try doing a patent search but most companies know that if you issue a patent for your "secret formula" you not only disclose everything about it... it also...

Differences among ML center channel speakers?

That's what I thought. I really like the Matinee and I think I'll get much more bang for the buck improving my system in other areas. Currently I'm running my Vista's and Matinee through an Emotiva XPA-3 amp and using my Yamaha RX-V663 as my processor. I think a better processor and amp in...

+1 on that. :rocker: It's good to be King! or at the very least live like one. :music:

Differences among ML center channel speakers?

OK... I just upgraded to Vista's (from the Sources) myself. Outstanding speakers. I was curious as to your opinion on the Motif versus the Matinee though. I'm certain that the Motif does sound better, maybe a more solid bottom end from the woofers and better mid range from the X-Stat panel I'm...

Differences among ML center channel speakers?

Didn't you have the Matinee before the Motif? I currently own the Matinee which has the same enclosure as the Motif with the major differences being the ELS panel is the older CLS (non-Xstat) and the woofers being paper instead of aluminum. I can't comment on the difference in fidelity as I...
