It is really easy to replace if you are handy building furniture like IKEA projects. I did it to my ML Vantages and had to take it apart to replace other parts as well.

I would choose the center that best matches your front. Since your Montis is the larger panels I would recommend the Stage. It can keep up with your front during loud passages better than the Motifs can.

McIntosh makes the MC205/207 which is directly coupled to the output transistors. I use the 4 ohm tap from my MC402 to my Vantages. I do like the dynamics of the 8 ohm, but found that it could not deliver enough current to some of my music that has loud transients.

Interesting to hear as I was seriously considering getting this as it is on closeout. Others have said the exact opposite. I guess I'll save money on other things...like more music! @OP: I've recently did some wire swaps myself. What I've found actually shocked me. I was a wire skeptic...

I agree with you. I hear a big difference between the 8 and 4 ohm tap on my MC402 with the Vantage. My mancave is overly dampened to the point where I used the 8 ohm tap to add some liveliness. :music:

I get it. I thought you were intending to ship it to Kansas. I've found ML to be more helpful than the Magnolia/BB especially after BB took over but that's another story.

Since you're in Seattle, was there a reason you didn't have Magnolia/BB repair it?

I just wanted to point out that the cracked struts is a known issue so it may not have been the shipper's fault. During the early runs, the factory over tightened the rods which led to cracked upper strut. It happened to me and ML shipped new struts right away.

I assume US as it was one of the earlier production serial number.

Did he try vacuuming the stators? Did he try looking for cracks in the upper and lower struts? How much is it for one stator these days?

What do you mean? Did ML send him a new plate amp or did he just swap it from the other speaker? And was this in just one speaker or both? Is he sure that his amp/receiver is capable of reaching those levels with the vantages? Could be the distortion he is hearing is due to clipping. Then...

I've had to replace the top strut that was cracking due to over-tightening. ML took care of it. I'll have to go over the bottom strut with a fine tooth comb when I get home.

Congrats. ESL are very tricky to get right. I had one speaker a mere 2" recessed and it made a huge difference in imaging and soundstage. I've also had to change the toe-in of just one speaker just to get it right. In the end it took hours of trial and error but once you get it dialed in...

It's one thing to have a inflexible policy set in stone, it is another thing to be very accomdating in practice. I have never once been asked to submit a receipt or serial number when I call in with a problem. Their service model seems to be keep sending out parts until your problem is fixed...

Feltran, You can always take it to your dealer and hook it up next to a working demo and compare. I have the ML Vantage and I don't think my Stage matches well either. Running test tones through the fronts and there is definitely a noticeably different voicing from Stage. But that is to be...
