    ELS 11A TAS review

The review we're talking about was also very complimentary to the Montis. I asked about upgrading from the Summit X to the Masterpiece Series in another forum and one person who had owned both Series replied that the Masterpiece Series was a little more forward sounding. I'm sure the...

    Tucson MLO Club Meeting

Hey guys, I've come down with the flu. That pushes the date that we can meet at my place out to March 1st or so. That gives us a little more time to plan so that we can all attend. jake9, stuwee, sharok, when is a good time for each of you to get together? Just answer this post and we can...

Sounds good Jake9. We can get together at my place this week, Wednesday, the 15th, through Saturday if that works for you. I'll be busy the next week, but open after that. stuwee lives in midtown and needs a ride out to my place off Kinney road south of Old Tucson. I'll send you my email...

    Tucson MLO Club Meeting

Maybe we should call it the Sonoran Desert MLO Club. stuwee, sharok, Wednesday (Feb. 15) through Saturday next week would be a good time for me to host a meeting. I live off Kinney Rd. south of Old Tucson. If you guys can work out a good time and transportation, let me know and we can get...

    Tucson MLO Club Meeting

Well, it wasn't exactly a club meeting. No audio manufacturers or big audio shops demonstrated their gear. I went over to Craig's place (stuwee), met him, and we chatted a while and listened to some great music on his system, which includes ML Summits. We had a good time and plan to get...

    Music

I see you got the ARC REF 75SE, and it's good to hear that you're enjoying it. I'd just listen to your music and not worry about it. If you want to test Redux's assertion, I'd get a very good direct coupled SS amp and compare it to the ARC in your system. No sense in trying anything less than...

The new Renaissance & Expression design

I think the move to rectangular bass enclosures is because they now have forward and rear firing bass cones, which probably cancel out each others backwave. The straight up panels are probably because the panels are tall enough that a back tilt is no longer necessary. If the bass drivers do...

Summit X vs. Montis - Based on Room Size

The Summit Xs are from the same generation of ML speakers as the Montis (the Renaissance line), so they have the same technology as the Montis. The Summit Xs have two 12 inch powered woofers compared to one in the Montis, so the Summit Xs would output a lot more bass energy into the room...

News from Munich High-End, Two New Masterpiece Series Electrostatic Speakers

I think that the best reason for having opposing woofers would be that they could cancel out each other's backwave and thereby stop the woofer box from causing the panel to vibrate. That would have to improve the sound and I'd be surprised if ML didn't take this opportunity to get that done.

Kudo's for Martin Logan's Customer support!

I have to second the kudos. ML recently did some work for me on a sub that was out of warranty (just barely but still out) and they did it as if the sub was still under warranty. Adam at ML was great to deal with and I couldn't be happier with the service.

    Cables/summits

The signal being fed to the amps in your Summits comes from your amp through your speaker cables, so both the amp and the speaker cables will affect the sound of the bass produced. It's easy to understand that a powerful solid state amp feeding your Summits would send a signal that would...

Zero Box Autoformers w/ Theos and PrimaLuna Dialogue HP Tubed Integrated?

A low power amp can drive the Theos nicely but it will start rolling off the frequencies above 10kHz and your high frequencies will be down maybe 10 dbs or more at 20kHz due to the .7 Ohm impedance of the MLs at 20kHz. Frequencies above 10kHz are harmonics. According to a couple of charts I...

    Montis speaker placement and power

Hi Zaidman, It doesn't look like the bookshelves would present any problem. Theoretically, the backwave from the panel should zoom right past your bookshelves and hit that window behind, which could cause problems by being too reflective, but it looks like the window is far enough behind your...

From Montis to Salon 2's to Goldenear Triton One's (My speaker journey is here)

Silver, I enjoy reading about your adventures in audio and I'm interested in your opinions. I'm sure others are too. Enjoy your Krell/Triton combo and please keep us updated on your continuing impressions and any changers you make. Tom

    Montis out of phase

I'd reverse the + and- cable ends if that sounds better to you and call Martin Logan to get a definitive answer as to what is going on.

Moving from - de facto Reference gear - Quad to Martin Logan?

Hi Redux, As has been said by others, the only way you'll know for sure is to try them out. I don't think you'll be taking a big risk. The Ethos and Montis are excellent speakers and you can get excellent sound out of them with a little effort. The Quad/sub combo may just sound a little...

    Theos or Used Vantage

Just to make sure, we are talking about 2 different ML speakers. The Theos does not have a powered woofer but is the same size as the Ethos. The Ethos does have a powered woofer that is supposed to allow better integration of the different drivers. I have not had the chance to compare the 2...

    Theos or Used Vantage

The newer generation Ethos are supposed to have better integration between the cone woofer and the ESL panel than older generation MLs, which would make for a better sounding speaker. Better integration in their hybrids is one of the constant quests for ML. I can't say if the Ethos would sound...

Preamp & Amp or Intergrated for Ethos

Since you already have the Carver amp, you might as well give it a listen with your Ethos before you buy something else. See if you can get the dealer to loan you a tube preamp. If he won't, you would be fully justified in going to another dealer who will allow you to take a preamp and/or amp...

Connection question - Theos vs. Ethos

Theos vs Ethos Hi docalan, Your Mac amp will provide plenty of power for either speaker. Some people feel that the Ethos has better integration between the panel and bass cone. That is the rationale for the higher price of the Ethos. That and the fact that the powered bass cone makes the...
