    Monolith II disassembly

Hi Tubeheaven, sorry, maybe I am joining late the discussion.... I also have Monoliths II and I have disassembled them almost completely. I am sorry but I don't understand completely your problem: the wooden side rails can be easily dismounted (see...

actually the stators are not really shiny....

    dirty panels

@Victor: thank you for the useful post! @slowGEEZR: if it is the stator coating that is coming off, this means that in some years it will loose its insulating properties.... I'm not an expert, but I always thought that the difficult task was coating the mylar, not the stator! I'm wondering...

    dirty panels

No news! The panels are still working (pretty well I would say :D ), the "central heating room" is in another building and I don't see this dirt on other furniture in the house. I used to see a lot of this dirt (especially on the crt tv screen) when I had in the living room my diy electrostatic...

    dirty panels

i don't use furniture polish. But... I have made new side cherry trims few years ago, they are coated with a normal wood wax. I know that the shower trick works, but I feel it like being a "last chance", if everyting else fails... Yes, I like this, much more than showering :-)

    dirty panels

actually I used to listen to my DIY esl speakers before the Monoliths. They were built using a graphite coating on the mylar and this coating was not absolutely stable: on the crt of my tv I always found a similar "dust"... I live near the sea, but I'm sure this is not enough to cause this...

    dirty panels

well, I think that the dust collected from the carpet and floor is "normal".. The strange thing to me is that this "dirt" is not the normal dust I collect from the floor or the rest of the furniture: it's a kind of black dust...

    dirty panels

No, they are placed in the living room No radiators, on the opposite side of the room tiled floor with a carpet quite a bit I was scared that the panels are loosing the mylar conductive coating, this would be very bad. On the other side, if the dust that I see on the stator will attach also...

    dirty panels

right Doug, just on the external part of the metallic stator. This seems really strange to me, if the dust is the metalization of the mylar then the life of the panels is going to be very short... but I don't have any other clue! Ciao Paolo

    dirty panels

Hi all! Happy 2012!!!!! During Christmas holidays I was cleaning my system, and this includes of course my Monoliths. Here you can see the result, just passing my hand on the stator: I don't use front covers. The panels are 4 years old. I don't smoke. I live in a quite smog free area. Is...

How to get more open sound from Monolith III

monolith II unfortunately I don't have any literature about them. All I know is infact what I can see. About the woofers, there are some figures printed on the magnet -X3600 -1036 -8623 (hey, is this meaning they are from 1986?) I was thinking about a peerless 830669, but with the availabe...

who needs new panels when you use conducitve liquid

Hi Jonathan I'm very curious to know how they tension the mylar on the stators. I already did a "stretch table" for the mylar for flat panels, but of course the curved are different beasts! The last quotation for replacement panels for my Monoliths here in Italy (in 2007) was 1300 euro. If...

How to get more open sound from Monolith III

II to III Hi BigGuy! I own a pair of Monolith II and since I have to replace the woofers (I have tryed to refoam them but the result is not completely satisfactory; in any case now the foam is gone again) I'm very interested about your upgrade. Is the woofer of the Monolith III different from...

    audio signal activated switch on

nice unit, I've been told the the EU version had some problems though... ...and it doesn't solve my problem: I'd like to connect the mains of the speaker to a near wall receptacle, with a sensing circuit that cuts off the HV from the panels when not in use. No schematic available of a ML model...

    audio signal activated switch on

good idea, cheap and easy! But I still would have to teach to my wife and daughters how to switch on the system, I'm looking for something simple and "automatic". Thanks, Paolo

    audio signal activated switch on

thanks! Hi all, thanks for the suggestions! I have performed two vacuuming sessions:ROFL:, now the situation is better but on some wet days I still hear less sound from one panel. It's summer time here in Italy, windows open means also more dust in the living room... Yes, unplugging them...

    audio signal activated switch on

Hi ML people! after less than two years I start having problems with the panel of my Monoliths:sad: One has lost efficiency and I think that also the frequency responce is a little bit compromised. I notice quite often that the panels are dirty, lot of dust and also insects between the stator...

    Spades for Monoliths II

no good news Hi, I've found out that also the Viablue TS6 spades are too wide.... Anyone that found a suitable one? Until now I've been able to find only "normal" spades that you have to solder on the cable, but I prefer to use spades where you can fix the cable in other ways (screws, etc)...
