I wholeheartedly agree.
Back in the Audio Asylum days (20+ years ago) we used Bob Crump's DIY power cord recipe that consisted of Pass & Seymour "spec grade" plug and outlet. Spec grade gives you the same build quality and grip of death as "hospital grade" but at an even lower price and...
No they can take instantaneous peaks of a lot more current without tripping. It's how Bryston justifies selling KW amps and massive power conditioners.
You're right, some of us got distracted from the main question and I didn't mean to imply you were "one of those people obsessing over AC cords". I think we can read between the lines on ML's recommendation. If in doubt one could ask ML, okay then what cords did you use to voice the speakers...
Absolutely agree. Even my "ancient" AVM-50 v2 is a stunning preamp. Been running it for 10 years straight. Would never consider any room correction other than ARC. My second choice would be a Bryston SP-3 with no room correction.
Good results with DH Labs silver sonic Q10 biwire on my Theos. They are a warmish speaker and the touch of silver really brought them to life. I do not consider them a very expensive cable especially when you buy in bulk and terminate yourself.
I don't know about your ML's jimbill (my meager Theos run on a 12V DC supply) but the answer I normally give to people obsessing about directional AC cords, fancy outlets or fuses is to remember that your amp/power supply is converting it all to DC in the end.
I do agree that high impedance...
I believe you, so there does seem to be serious issues with some of the older models, but it could be just an unfortunate defect rather than something systemic. It happens with other electronics and people with problems are drawn to the Internet more than those that are happy, which tends to...
You're right, that part of my comment was more for the car analogies that others were trying to make. Even Audi will sell you parts for their oldest car (just don't expect them to pay for it) but prices get higher as supply runs lower and the car model gets rarer. At some point it becomes...
Nope. Even B&W, who once touted they could supply parts for any speaker made in the last 60 years, cannot even supply a missing wall bracket for a speaker 5 years old. And yes it's an awful proprietary part.
I doubt very much ML considers them consumables, otherwise there would be a replacement schedule (like an engine oil filter) and nobody would buy them. Secondly the speakers will continue to work if the panels are not replaced and they are not thrown in the rubbish. In fact my friend and I...
They will absolutely honor price if you place your order before August 1, but don't expect to take delivery for some time.
I am not surprised at these price increases. The ESL/Masterpiece series are made in one of Canada's most expensive cities, not some backwoods town.
That's a nice looking unit, much better than the old Atolls I remember from decades past!
It uses a standard 3-prong IEC power cord. You don't have a spare from an old amp or computer/monitor until the new cord arrives?
