I highly recommend the new KEF 201/2 Reference series monitors. Not cheap but they sound as good as my Vantages and do certain things even better. I bought them for a dedicated 2 channel system in a small room where the Vantages did not work well.

I too have been experimenting with speaker positioning and toe in based on advice from sleepy in another thread. In my system it makes a MUCH bigger difference than any component or gadget has ever made. Just moving my TV around a bit makes a big difference! I guess the only rule here would be...
