Can you diagnose a possible ground loop problem with one of those little 3 prong wall plug electrical testers that you plug into the wall and has the 3 lights across the top? I'm working on a sub woofer hum issue.
I have to go a long way to get to my rear speakers. Especially if I want to route it in the least conspicuous way. 50 feet to one and maybe 65 to the other. Does this distance impact the type of cable I should use? Thicker gauge perhaps? I do have some 16 gauge. Is that too small?

Hum Free at Last!
God bless the BJC LC-1!! It eliminated all the hum I was upset with. I can still hear the sub working, but I have to get right down on it. 90% of the hum disappeared. Thanks to those that helped.

I've taken everything out of the loop one at a time. Plugged the sub into the same wall socket as the preamp. The hum is the same. I unplugged the rca cable from the preamp and when I put my finger near the cable lead, I could manipulate the hum. I'm thinking its...
