Placement options – Impacts of location, orientation and treatments

I firmly believe that the room is a major component to the system. If you do not spend the time and resources to get that as acoustically correct as you can first, not much else matters. Because, the best component will not perform near to its potential otherwise. Room treatments = music.

Placement options – Impacts of location, orientation and treatments

I am a member over at Audio Circle and haven't posted here in quite some time, since I have taken my CLSes out of service for my new system. I just wanted to mention that I have found that the proper mix of both absorption and diffusion do work quite well in my room with all the dipoles that...

A Question of Focus and Illusion

Yes I have. I think of it as more of a living center than a sterile artificial one. I don't mean to say that point source speakers always create a sterile environment, but I do find dipoles seem to have more of a 'living' presence to them. However, I am just as guilty as those that have only...

A Question of Focus and Illusion

I had this as a topic on another message board several weeks ago, and since it has to do in part with my MLs, I thought it would be an interesting discussion here as well. Here it goes: I have been thinking about something lately and wanted to put it out there for discussion. A friend of...

    System #68 (Vista)

I do know what you mean. Sometimes you have to be able to stop changing things and just enjoy the music. Afterall that is what this is all about. One could make themselves crazy tweaking this and that to get the most ideal sound, and miss out on the music along the way. There is a certain...

    System #68 (Vista)

How far away is the listening seat from the speakers and what sort of triangle is made between the three of them? Although they may look widely spaced in the photo, that can be deceptive considering the actual listening position. However, they do look a bit close to the wall behind them. In...

    System #41 (CLS)

Yes, I was very fortunate being so close to all of the destruction, yet left pretty much unscathed. So often I have taken many things for granted. An event like this has been a real wake-up call. Since my soundroom only serves as such and is separate from the house, I only needed to be...

    System #41 (CLS)

That hurricane was terrible. I am still in shock with all that has gone on. Thankfully I was very fortunate and got by with just minor roof damage to my home and this soundroom, which is separate from the house. It was close and if it had gone just a bit more to the West, I could have very...

    System #41 (CLS)

Here is my right rear corner of the room. It is the only corner without acoustic bass controls. I have several older components there that I just can't seem to let go of, like my original Kinergetics 20a, one of the first truely musical CD players. That was followed my the first Musical...

    System #41 (CLS)

The rear wall is a bit unique. It is an original sculpture by Patrick Miller that shows off his interest in a sciencefiction/gothic slant. I guess to me, reproduced music creates a sort of mystical, magical illusion of reality with the acoustic space. So, my room has the artwork to match...

I finally have a new digital camera with a wider lens that can capture my room better.

    Soundstage size on clsIIz's

Newer does not always mean better. Actually the older electronics are a prized match to both the older and newer panels for many folks. I know of more than just a few that firmly believe they offer the best in absolute sound quality. However, there is a price for that and it comes in a...

    System #41 (CLS)

Well, I have been living with this new set-up for a while now and believe I have found the best placements within my room for these CLSs. A few inches here or there do make a difference and I have several optional positions marked on the floor for them. The best surprise of all has been how...

VTL 125 Mono Amps and ML's

If your speakers are set-up for biamp capability, then you would be using its internal crossover network, and adding an external active may not be necessary, or wise. If you do wish to run an external active one, then be sure that the speakers internal x-over has been taken out of the path...
