Hi all,

I previously had posted a question on the ETC spikes I got as a present for my new music room. I now see the smart design details in these ETC but untill recently I could not fully apprehend the resulting changes in sound as the music room was still in status ascendi.
Finally the music room is vivid.

So, can I hear the effects from the ETC,s ? I still can't

Almost every aspect in the acoustic environment and some adjustments in the audio chain have changed adding up to a new sound. What the effect of the ETC's alone make illudes me.

But not to worry, sound is becoming quite good, even better then before. The sweet spot is rather narrow, but really hot. The room is slightly smaller then the previous one and requires less power from the system to roar and sing. A little less stress on the components does help in keeping sound smooth and silky, even with crescendi. The Sub's are adjusted anew and the low end is the limitting factor of the sweet spot size! Not the higher frequencies. I use a cancellation trick with low frequencies for damping the 38 Hz (or so) resonance of the ReQuest and this does call for carefull tuning.

But in sweet spot low end will flat out to 20 Hz, off sweet spot a noticable peak is heard at 45 Hz and higher.

So far the music room.

Does anyone use high res streaming audio sources yet? I tend to get a streamer in anticipation on high resolution digital sources.

Happy listening

Hi all,

Back on the subject here again. As RadicalSteve has observed, I too find the ETC points do not penetrate the carpet easily. I do force spikes to get thru by adding my own weight momentairily. Once thru they will stick there, helped with the 50 pound additional weight I put on the speakers cabinet and frame.

I also notice an improvement when adding weight on the cabinets, even more when added on top of the frames.

My Request are sitting on a solid concrete floor and stand very secure.

Still my music room is not finished. But I did install the ETC spikes and now see the smart design details. The small recess on the bigger ring fits over the nut inside the cabinet, so the larger part of the ring connects intimately with the cabinet over a large area. I can see that this fit increases rigidity in the horizontal plane over the regular spikes or feet. Clever!
I had to remove the clips locking the frame rails and bass front into their places. Otherwise the feet would fit on these clips partly, completely denying a good fit. I ended up taking parts of the clips to give room for the ETC feet.

They look gorgeous. The speaker is raised half an inch. Not much, but I would like it to go the other way.
I would show a photo, but have not put photo's on the web, so it is not to be.

Happy listening
Henk
