If I lived in a dusty or brightly sunlit environment, I would make covers. I don't think a cover would really help keep out humidity.

Yep - cover mine all the time. Whenever they're not in use for any period longer than a day or so.
I just use the fabric ones that were supplied with my Vistas. Large rubbish bags work well too.
Just to keep the dust off as that is what damages the panels. Humidity is only a problem when combined with dust (or other pollutants).
