Hey guys! if anyone in the dfw area can offer a hand, I have a tube restoration project. I just aquired a sansui 1000a, a teac reel to reel and a bic turntable. I havent even tried to power them up but I am sure by the looks they will need some work. I am a SS guy so this will be my maiden voyage into tubes.

I would truly apprieciate any help you guys can offer! I plan on marrying these with my Janzen electrostats!

thanks

jason

In SoCal so can't help but remember tube voltages are very high in comparison to SS so BE CAREFUL.

Jason - this isn't the right place to ask. Very little comes up in the way of DIY here, and when it does, very little interest is shown.

I'd try some of the more specialised DIY forums. Good luck!

Which Teac model?

The Sansui is a nice tube receiver. If it has not been powered up in a while DO NOT plug it in and turn it on. You will need to borrow a Variac and run the voltage up slowely to reform he caps.

DOH! got your reply too late! I powered it up!
good news.. nothing fried..that i can tell. I tuned in a country station..ugh..that was the worst part.

it appears to be it pretty good working order.

the teac is the 505

the bic turntable is the 920

the teac seems stuck...as is the turntable.

but everything powers up well. or so it seems.

lord knows I could use someone close by that would want to tinker!

Tubes...

I built a tube amp kit earlier this year and it was a blast!!!

As others have mentioned --- some very high voltages inside these suckers so be prudent!!

I would suggest posting on the Tube section of the AudioKarma.org forum:

These folks are mostly hardcore tube enthuisiasts it would seem so I think they might be a better resource.....

Good luck!!!

Both the Teac and the BIC will need to be disassembled. cleaned, lubed and reassembled. The grease gets olds and gums up. This keeps parts from moving easily like they should. They will also need new belts. Look at the heads on the Teac and if they have a tape path groove cut into them. I wouldn't spend much time on fixing it.

You can drop Rolf an email for parts: http://www.angelfire.com/electronic2/vintagetx/copy_of_index.html
