Advice?

Setting my AVR the way I like it. Last night I was playing around with my weak Cambridge audio amp

Cambridge Audio Azur 640 A
Power Output: 75 watts into 8 Ohms
120 watts into 4 Ohms
Input Impedance: 47k Ohms
Loudspeaker Impedance: 4 to 8 Ohms

...and decided to raise the volume on the amp and the ML's Quests '93 came alive ( testing while watching Underworld on Blue-Ray), but soon after switching to play some PS3 games, the opening scene of one of them has a loud boom and it clipped my amp. So I turned it down and it was fine. Why is that I have to constantly go back and forth on the volume on the amp and on the receiver based on the video source? I never really played with the amps volume because I was getting tired of adjusting the volume constantly, so I kept the amps volume at a low setting to avoid clipping.

If raising the amps volume and getting nice clarity mean that the amp is under powering and a new one is in order or is it still the panels:confused:

Found this amp on Audiogon, any opinions? looking for something in the sub-$1000.00

Rotel RB 1070 power amplifier

Any help would be appreciated

Scotty we need more power!!

That amp is a bit under powered if you ask me. The Rotel would be seem at first glance to be a better bang for the buck. You just need more head room and 75 watts aint gonna get it. I believe the Rotel is 130 a side, and this should work. I have always thought the Rotel was a great product at a great price point, even though I don't own a single piece. The stuff reminds me a bit in that regard of NAD. Another good product for the buck. Good luck with the search.

I know nothing about that amp of yours, but I'll assume that it's solid state. And a 75W SS amp is kinda weak -- and certainly insufficient for driving large electrostatics. Changing panels or whatever is not going to help you one iota, so go for the amp before something bad happens to it or its' clipping damages the speakers.

That Rotel should do the trick, but I would prefer to see a dedicated amp of at least 150 WPc (the more the merrier)driving those Quests...

How about these:

Good amp choices VAN , You can find a Sunfire for under $1000 now too. They work well with the Quest. I had one with my Quest and it was good.
