An oft-forgotten upgrade to your system! Damn I enjoyed my music tonight.

Of course, enjoy wine in moderation. It doesn't need to be alcholic - just something enjoyable like some good cheese, antipasto or whatever else floats your boat!!

Ammey, yes, there is wide body of scientific (and empirical) data that consumption of alcohol will improve one's perceptions of things.

For instance:

And the audio equivalent of:

No Wine – your system looks like this:

1 bottle later and voila, it looks like this:

So, yes, a reasonably priced upgrade. One I’m sure many members apply on a regular basis (at least judging from some late-hours postings ;) )

My two faves

There are so many good wines and living near the California wine country is AWESOME.

Look at those price tags! And you have Cakebread Cellars behind! That is porn too, Tom.

I always enjoy my trips through wine country. Going through the wineries in Carmel I discovered Bernardus Winery - just HAD to get a shirt.

Yeah, I wasn't going to go there. I've had the opportunity to taste both the Silver Oak and the Caymus on occasion and I've got to say that Tom and Kerry obviously have good taste. Just don't tell me you have a case of Opus 1 stashed in the back there Tom. I'm going to be in Emeryville in a couple of weeks Tom, what say I come over and help you get rid of some of that!?

Hey - we should do a National GTG in Wine Country one of these years!

Now, of course, if you don't follow the moderation advice...

The music goes round and round (then goes through a bunch of wire, glass, silicon and wine) and comes out here...:puke:

And at $129.99 a bottle, that's a waste!

Once of my favourites has been the deep red Penfolds stuff... Koonunga Hill packs some good Aussie flavour for a reasonable price. Grange is pretty nice too, of course!

Actually, I heard an interesting fact the other day - why do they play loud music in bars? Because it makes you drink quicker!!! Fact!!!

So by similar reasoning, we must all be fast drinking p*ss-heads!

Tom,

It was my good friend Jay that brought a bottle of 1995 Silver Oak, to his birthday party that started me down the road to FINE red wine. He also has helped me down the path to my home theater. But the too sure go together well.

I also like the bottle of Cakebread (my current favorite). I will be visting them in just a few short weeks (mid Sept). Wife and I are driving Hwy 1 from LA to Napa.

I hope you have the appropriate (Riedel) stemware. I'm amazed at the difference it makes.

Perhaps we need to start a wine thread.

Cool idea !

There are a lot of great restaurants in the area. As well, I like to stop at Dean and Deluca in St.Helena for food I can't find at home (pistachio marzipan, Laderach chocolates, etc.)

Talk about the "nectur of the Gods" !! Goes yummy with a burger from McDonalds !

Truthfully, albeit sad, once when I detrained in Flagstaff, Az I saw dozens of these bottles littered throughout the station area. Our native American ancestors unfortunate beverage of choice.

Hm, that Grange looks as though it needs taking adVantage of:D

Of course, you'll be needing these first, if that isn't an ex-bottle of Grange now:)

When this link dies, it was simply an auction for some vintage Penfolds wine glasses.

Actually, if that Grange is still alive, save it for the ML get together... I know your thinking of going... and share it EXCLUSIVELY with me:) If you don't like sharing, I can consume the entire contents, of course!

Silver Oaks and Chimeny Rock are the two best from California IMHO. Had a 2001 Reserve Cab. from Chimney Rock last weekend and it was EXCELLENT. I will have to take a look at your other recommendation.

No - it's not an ex-bottle of Grange yet - my wife wanted white last night, so we had a nice Clare Valley Scarpantoni Sav-Blanc. Enough time to get the glasses!

As for the get together, I'd LOVE to go - hopefully I'll be able to next year......but I'm not bringing no Grange with me, too expensive in excess baggage!

That's a damn good idea. We've had threads on everything else just about. I guess this is it!
In that case, TomDac (the Big Cheese), would you please rename this thread "The Wine Thread.
