If I was building a minimalist system for my den today it would be Martin Logan Puritys + new Benchmark Pre-amp + 160 Gb iPod + Wadia docking station. If anyone on this forum tries this I would like to hear your impressions.

Ive thought of the same type of setup. Only I would use Empirical Audio's forthcoming Formula 1 DAC/Pre and just run it straight from the laptop. They do sound nice directly from the SONOS ZP80. We had it on demo at the store like that for a while.![]()
Don't bother with the iPod, or you're stuck with it's built-in DAC's. Get an Apple TV or an Airport Express. Both of these have optical digital outputs so that you can use a decent DAC. Even a cheap DAC is a big step up from what's in the iPod.
I use an Apple TV as my main music server (well, player, the PC serves it), and all of the same music is sync'd to my iPod which I use in the car. Best of both worlds.
The Wadia iDock bypasses the internal iPod DAC and gives you digital output.![]()
