Artist: Murray Perahia
Title: Songs Without Words
Year of Release: 1999
Record Label: Sony
Genre: Classical
This CD has some great music, but I am recommending it for just one track in particular: Schubert's "Standchen" (i.e. the famous serenade). Perahia first plays it through, then plays it again, this time echoing each phrase. The effect is incredibly beautiful. I heard him play it live, in concert, as an encore. The encore itself was worth the price of admission. The programme was mainly Bach, and I am far from a Bach fan (I find Bach mathematically correct, but emotionless), but went to the concert anyway as I am a great Perahia fan, starting with a 1980 live performance in which he played the Schubert Impromptus; I left the concert hall walking on air then.
