You betcha !!!! I love the Bolivar Churchill, a great cigar, underated, fairly priced and you don't have to worry about counterfits !! like half the Cohibas out there !!

Try Don Juan Urquijo churchills made in the Philippines. It was rated by Cigar Officianado sometime ago. One of my favorites!

Just got my new JR Catalog

Did anybody take notice of the new El Rey Del Mundo cigars ???
They are labled 'Real', a blend of Honduran, Dominican and Nicaragua filler, US conn broadleaf binder with a Honduran wrapper. I they are like other El Rey's suspect they will be a winner, only three sizes available. I'm gonna order a box tomorrow !!

Things you can't do in big cities

12th annual St. Patricks Day eve' bonfire party!

This photo was taken about 10 pm. The temp was about
35F but nobody was chilly. I'm guess-timating here, but the
flames over my left shoulder are about 35 feet tall, and
were 150+ feet for the first few minutes of the fire. The
bonfire is about 50 feet behind me and it's so hot you
can't get much closer. Those are the remains of about
20+ TREES burning, not sticks. The pile was about 30-feet
in diameter and over 20 feet tall before being lit.

That Ashton VSG Wizard was lit just before the bonfire,
about an hour prior to this photo. At 56-guage, it was the
largest ring guage I'd smoked and I had expected a cooler,
less flavorful smoke, but it was awesome. I rate cigars by
how close to the nub I go, and this one was a finger-burner.
Expensive, but very worth the extra. Highly recommended.

The jovial, photogenic smile is the product of a full, fat
belly, a sore lower back from playing lumberjack all day,
and pouring 3/4 of a tall Balvenie 15 single malt down the
hatch. Which also helped drive off the cold. ;)

Hey Brian, wearing the 'Green" I see !! I too can relate to how far down I smoke , if I need a 'roach' clip then it must have been a good cigar !!

My Visit to the Cigar Capital of the World !!

During my recent vacation to Fla for some Spring Training Baseball, relaxing in the sun with beverage of choice and fine cigar and a trip over to visit George aka "Rampage60" (which unfortunately didn't happen since I spent two days of my vacation in bed with the stomach flu !!) I did manage to spend time in Ybor City. Now for you Cigar Aficiandos this was in "the day", the capital of the cigar industry and the rich history and heritage of it's past is still here for all to enjoy.

Ybor (pronounced e-bor) on the southeast side of Tampa, was at it's height of cigar production during the first quarter of the twentith century.

I know the Fla folks are aware of Bern's Steak House but for those that aren't , not far from Ybor City is Bern's, and if your into wine this place supposedly has the largest wine cellar selection in all of North America !

Anyways, Pics below are of Ybor City and of the Cuban gentlemen rolling MY box of Churchill Cigars !!

Whoa!

That must really bring a whole new level to the enjoyment of the stogie, knowing who actually rolled your delicious delicacies! The skill that goes into a good cigar is truly admirable. I have never tried or had the opportunity to do so, but it sure is something I wouldn't mind learning.... Imagine rolling your own sticks! Now that would be sweet!!!!

Please make sure to give a review of the stogies you had rolled for you! I would love to hear your a/b comparisons of those to some other name brand mainstream sticks.

Congrats on the trip! :rocker:

I've wanted to visit Ybor ever since I learned its history.
I'll get a Round Tuit someday. ;)

A shipment of Fuente Sungrowns and Don Carlos arrived
at the local shop this week. I went nuts and re-stocked my
humidor with various sizes. Both are favorites, especially
the Sungrowns because they're so affordable.

I've never noticed this before, but the Sungrown I smoked
today was quite harsh/bitter for the first 1/2-inch. But then
it quickly smoothed out and rest of the cigar was awesome
until I got near the band and I had to stop. The Ashton VSG,
other Fuentes, and the few Partagas I've tried recently
were much more consistent though the entire cigar.

I bought my fist full, unopened box the day before yesterday. I was torn between the Fuente Churchill Maduros and the Double Chateau Maduro. I got the Chateau, though I would probably be better off with the slightly leaner Churchill for a frequent stogie. It felt nice to be the one to first open the box... usually when I buy that many I've gotten a box full of mixed since whatever I was looking for wasn't in stock unopened.

BTW, I'd actually forgotten about this link http://www.herfersparadise.net/portal/modules.php?name=Forums Herfer's Paradise. A real nice cigar forum.

A great new Cigar !!!

Gents, My local shop, JR Cigars, Marchwood, Pa just got in a shipment of a Nicaraguan Puro called 'Perdomo' (lot23). These beauties might just be the best buy of the decade !! The marriage of Nicagraguan filler, binder, and wrapper on this cigar is superb. The tobacco was grown in 2000, harvested in '01, fermented till '02 and then aged till'06. Sizes range from a Robusto, Belicoso, up to a Toro and Churchill. All sell for LESS than $5 a stick here in Pa !!!

Out of the box my Churchill was absolutely delicious, a med to full bodied smoke with plenty of interesting flavor right up to the finish. I've bought another box put it in my locker to age even further for a few months.

Another Nicaraguan Gem !!

Has anybody had the pleasure of smoking an 'Oliva' ?

Man , I had a pyramid / figurado today, 7 x 56, an incredible med bodied, dream smoke if there ever was one !

By the way cigar lovers, now is a good time to stockpile about, oh,
10 years worth of stogies. I will put away a few hundred sticks in a
cooler converted to humidor before January.

In a rare Bush veto, a 256% tax increase on cigars was narrowly
avoided last month. That would have equated to about $3 per cigar
on the top-end types discussed in this thread. It's pretty much a
given that this tax, or an even higher one, will pass next session.
The original SCHIP bill last June proposed a $10 per cigar tax.

Gulp !!!!! Man my beloved Camacho 11/18's will have to be rationed !!

Late comment, but I just saw this thread for the first time: I always thought that cigars were rolled on the thighs of Cubana beauties ! ;)

Which brings us to the ol' "Desert Island" / "End of
Civilization" list. You know the drill. You have 30 days to
collect all the cigars you will smoke for the rest of your life.
What do you buy?

Okay, I went through my cigar band collection to refresh
my memory. Here's my first draft...

  • Arturo Fuente King B 6x55ring ($120 box of 18)
  • Ashton VSG Spellbound 7.5x54ring ($300 box of 24)
  • La Flor Coronado Double Corona 7x50ring ($162 box of 24)
  • Padron 1964 Anniversary Pyramid 6.7x52ring ($340 box of 25)
  • Padron 1926 Pyramid Maduro 6.7x52ring ($340 box of 20)
  • Perdomo Cabinet Series Torpedo 7x45ring ($180 box of 25)
  • Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Torpedo 6.25x52ring ($160 box of 20)
  • San Cristobal 7.25x49ring ($212 box of 22)
That's about 178 cigars and costs about $1,800 (owie!).
But such a stash should last me about 7 years given that
I only smoke about 24 cigars a year.

I'll probably forego the top-end Padrons and triple-up on
the La Flor Coronados. It's such an awesome cigar at an
unbelievable price.

Then again, premiere stogies are hardest hit by punative
100% tax rates. This list should probably be only the best
of the best. The average smokes will be expensive, but not
insanely so. Hm, this requires more thought.

Okay stogie lovers, what did I overlook?

I gotta feelin' this list is gonna grow faster than my bank
account. I forgot one of my favorite milder smokes which
will have to go in the cooler...

H.Upmann Vintage Camaroon Toro 6x54ring ($125 box of 25)

Twitch, is this the 11/18 your prefer?

Camacho 11/18 Maduro 6x52ring ($145 box of 18)

I've not tried it yet, but I'm planning to head to the cigar
shop tomorrow after a fill up at the assault weapon store.
I hope they have some Camachos in stock.

That's the baby, it's a figurado and downright tasty ! Camacho is now offering them in boxes of '21'.

Brian, I concur with your choices, the Pedrons are excellent cigars and with respect to the Perdomo's, try their 'Lot 23's', a Nicaragua wrapped beauty with the body and soul to die for. Get them out of their cellophane and let them age for a couple of months and you will be further impressed !

I worked at a cigar store for 3 1/2 years I have had almost every cigar and enjoyed almost everyone. like others I would love too smoke in my listening room but just can't bring myself to do it even with a vent system I think it would still smell and I know the smoke is not good for av stuff. I have found this is a good find lately it's called the CAO America.I also like to smoke a pipe.
