Thinking of getting a DJ turntable. 1200's are no longer made...well just this year they started making them again but with a list price of $4000!

So there are a few other DJ TTs that DJs argue are up to par with the older 1200 series Technics. Thinking of getting an Audio-Technics 1240:

I already have a nice VPI with Dynavector 17D3 cart and Musical Surroundings phono amp. So the 1240 would just be for fooling around.

What are your thoughts on these TTs? Would you even consider this for someone with a entry level stereo system or just getting into vinyl?

There has been a lot of forum discussion on the 1200G & limited edition GAE models in the last few months.

I just happened to watch a documentary on YouTube concerning the "re-boot" of the Technics brand and the lengths that the company and its new CEO (Ms Michiko Ogawa) had gone to were impressive. First half of the show was electronics but the remainder was dedicated to the 1200 re-birth and detailed the difficulties of re-acquiring manufacturing and design skills that had been lost. They even pulled a few "old-timers" (not necessarily retired) back into the fold to act as consultants for the T/T & tonearm design work. One engineer was 90 years old but still up for the challenge.
The end result needless to say was an engineering triumph.

Ironically it was the heartfelt letters from DJ enthusiasts that helped bring all of this about but in reality the 1200 is far better than just a scratching machine. It is a superior design and genuinely high-end turntable, full stop.

Check out the AB comparison conducted by MF on Analog Planet. It's a win for the Continuum but still a fine result for essentially a plug'n'play T/T. (There is a slightly long-winded preamble on this particular link BTW)
