doylestown, oh
I have just got a tube amp 75watts per channel using it with summits and not noticing the things tube amps
Are supposing not capable of doing with stats! What type of music sound should I listen to to notice these problems? Any info is appreciated Thanks

khenegar, I have no clue what you're trying to say. Have you started drinking before lunch today ? perhaps a re-type with something more legible, thanks !

khenegar, are you saying that it sounds good, but you are looking for problems and can't find any?

I have tube amps with my stats, and they sound great. Dave will tell you the same.....oh wait, he does not have stats any more.

khen, Summit's have the bass powered, your amp just drives the panels, duh! So are you asking about clear bell like sound from a triangle or cymbal hit, a creamy vocal female voice, the bite of a tight brass horn? I had BAT 50SE tube amps for a spell, love, love, loved them! But, not enough juice for my concert levels...my big SAE with fans to keep it cool with 500w continuous @8ohms ( a kilowatt @4ohms :D) does the trick for me. YMMV, I'd love to have a nice low powered tube amp for late night sessions, tubes just sound so right in so many listening situations. I had a Pilot A1090 console with the vaulted A232 amp with el34's, what a wonderful sound.

If I were you, I'd look into a Pilot amp have it gone over by a specialist and sit back with a glass of single malt and melt into your fav!!!

Never owned tube anything therefore not possible to help much.

However check the polarity of your connections.

Are you certain all tubes are in good shape?

Hope this amp is only connected to the stat panel.

Try connecting the panel to the tube power amp 8 ohm connection instead of 4 ohms.

Just be cool, relax and trouble shoot. Something obvious in hindsight in your setup must be in error.

Hope the above helps.

Good luck.

You are referring to the roll-off effect - which is indeed is a problem for ML and several tube amps. You notice this effect doing a A/B comparison. A 75w tube amp will probably suffer with your summits. The best match with the "new" ML with difficult impedance is a direct coupled SS amp - but most of the time they sound to harsh - so a carefully tube match or even a Macintosh may be ok.

I see you got the ARC REF 75SE, and it's good to hear that you're enjoying it. I'd just listen to your music and not worry about it.

If you want to test Redux's assertion, I'd get a very good direct coupled SS amp and compare it to the ARC in your system. No sense in trying anything less than a very good amp because it just won't sound as good as the ARC.

I did such a test many years ago....compared a Copland 50W tube amp with a Copland 100W SS amp. The SS amp gave me better bass, but I preferred the tube amp. I now have ARC 110W tube monoblocks.....no lack of bass.
