Sounds like voice is coming out of right speaker more than left

Hi Guys,

I've got Martin Logan Vistas, I set them up using the Audessey setting on my Denon 4306 and checked the dB level with a different meter.

I currently have them toed in according to the ML video with the light shining on the inner third of the speaker. The sound is coming out of both speakers when I am close to the speakers but for some reason it sounds as though the voice is only coming out of the right speaker when I'm sitting at listening position.

Any tips to correct this?

Thanks

The distance measurements are probably off in Audyssey for the L and R channels due to placement of the speakers in the room (ESLs seem to confuse Audyssey at times). Try making these two measurements equal and see if the image shifts to the center.

Check to make sure sound is coming out of your panels evenly. One of my panels was only producing sound from the bottom of the panel. I ended up replacing both panels.

I have same problem

I replaced a panel and power supply but no change. High voltage transformer is next which just leaves the crossover. Let me know how your situation works out.

Thanks
Tony

I used to have this problem with my CLS. Make sure loudspeakers are symmetrical placed in the room. Switch ML power cord from one side to the other. Could be the amplifier. Switch with different amplifier to check. Troubleshoot. I resolved all three issues in the following fashion. First made sure everything is symmetrical placed in audio room. Bought CLX power cords. Bought new integrated amplifier. In addition, rinsed with water CLS panel. Rinsing cleaning the panel had the most impact on resolving this issue.

Hope you have not by mistake changed the balance of the Denon when using audessey

Hope the above info helps.

Have fun listening to music!

Could be a simple room anomaly. Try moving the left speaker forward (closer to listening position) another 1/4 to 1/2".

Or it could be a "toe in" issue.

Hello Guys,

Some months ago I bought a pair of second hand Aerius from 1993. I am thrilled with the sound of the speakers knowing that they still have the original diaphragms on them. I do though have one minor problem which I would like to share with you and ask for hints how to possible solve the problem.

Sitting in my listening position I clearly hear a well defined sound image (voice(es) in the middle and instruments around the singer) and the depth of the sound image is good too. When I place my ear close to the panels I can hear a difference between the two speakers. One speaker seems a little bit duller than the other and some frequencies seem to be louder on one speaker than the other.
What I have tried until today to fix the problem:

Hovered and washed the Panels thoroughly (quite some improvement in over all sound)
Swapped the panels to make sure it is not the HV power supply electronic = the issue follows the panel
Swapped the position (R<-> L) of the complete speaker to make sure it´s not a room acoustic problem = the issue follows the speaker i.e. the panel of the speaker
Considering the age (23 years) of the panels I do have doubts that I can solve the problem without getting new panels.

One other thing I would like to point out is that I have the subjective feeling that the sound difference get les noticeable after 30-40 minutes playing music.
I am wondering if it could have something to do with the HV connection being worse on one panel than the other.

Have one or more of you had similar experience?
Were you able to find the reason and solve the problem?

I thank you all for your great help and for this super Forum.

Regards
Rino

I remember reading in this forum couple or few years ago though I do not remember the details that some difference is to be expected in panel volume or loudness due to if I am not mistaken aging of the panels. If the sound difference is minor only hear by placing ear next to panel, then ignore this problem. Even in new panels some have 2-3 decibel difference.

Sorry unable to provide additional help. The answer to your problem was given by a member some years ago. I do not remember accurately the details.

I had this problem last week, and was wondering what was going on, until I realized that I was leaning over to one side in my seat. The problem disappeared when I corrected my posture.

Thank you both for your reply. As I wrote I do not really hear it sitting in my optimal listening position but I was just wondering whether I would be able to improve the sound getting both speakers providing the same sound level.
@ M15: I am not too worried as I experience a more than acceptable sound sitting in my listening position. I have also tried to move around and lean to all sides with no real difference.

I guess we are all haunting the last even smallest improvements - that is part of the HiFi craziness

Hola. What you did to track the problem is correct. If you have one panel with more output, the other is weak. The only way is changing both panels. One of the best selling model of ML. New stat panels come with 5 year factory warranty. Happy listening!

Hi,

I am planning to get new panels sometime spring next year, just want to get the best out of the panels I currently have.
I have already done some enquiry on new panels or new diaphragms, what are your experience with new ML panels vs. new Diaphragms (mounted into the current panels)?

The prices I received:
ML original panels with 5 years guarantee from the German ML importer is 1060,- €
Getting new Diaphragm in both panels from a German specialist cost 850 - 950 €

In my opinion, given the above information, perhaps a good idea to buy original panels with 5 years guarantee from German importer. Price of this option is only marginally greater than other option. Guarantee provides reasonable assurance against risk of loss through spoilage.

On the other hand, if the German specialist is just as good as ML and also gives comparable years of guarantee. Then stimulate demand and provide employment by buying from German firm.
